Im sure i read this somewhere.
It says you can book a seat in any class with an ordinary ticket. Im thinking the Edinburgh to London train, so a long journey.

Does anyone know?

I was once sat in my standard class seat waiting for the train to leave London when the guard decided to upgrade me to first class as a load of football fans were about to get on and he didn't think I should be sat on my own with them. I didn't tell him I'd just come from the same football match....

No you can’t. You just have to stand.

Not if you have booked a seat

The type of person that travels first class won’t want to be travelling with a lower class of person.

😉😁😁😁

Assuming that you aren't already on the train, there is an App called Seatfrog where you can bid for 1st class upgrades.

Some people seem to get bargains.

Yeah I've used this a few times and upgraded very cheaply.

If you're in your last two weeks of pregnancy or something like that with a letter from your midwife some lines will give you a free pass to sit in first rather than stand, if the train is full. Does that apply to you OP?

Years ago the train from here to London used to have a restaurant car. The journey was only an hour but if we were going to London we’d add a meal onto our ticket. It was only £10 or so for a two course meal and it meant we spent the entire journey in 1st.

What type of person is that? Not so long ago I was able to upgrade to 1st class on a journey to London for £5 with free food and drink so a total no brainer

It was the weekend so probably not available during the week, as far as I could tell the others in the carriage were all regular folk
