We have a family weekend away with adult DC in their 20s and their partners.

I know this is great for children but they advertise it as a fun day out for adults as well. Is it suitable for a bunch of nerdy 24 year olds?

Never seen any slides but definitely a fun quirky day out for all ages.

cheesenpickle · 21/05/2023 21:26

What exactly is it? ive heard about it and read reviews but still don't really get what sort of activity it is.

Aposterhasnoname · 21/05/2023 21:28

We have a three year old and a one year old, would it be suitable for them or are we better to wait a couple of years?

It’s better if you go without knowing….

Thats because its hard to describe. Its stuff to walk around, though, look at etc. You have to go to understand it really. Its not so much an activity to do more an experience to experience if that makes sense.

Wait a couple of years, its not really pushchair friendly. Once the youngest is walking you will enjoy it a lot more.

absolutely.

we went last year and i lived it as much as my 11 year old.

MirandaWest · 21/05/2023 21:40

DH and I went there about 18 months ago on our way from York to the Lake District. Both enjoyed it very much 😃 don’t think there were any slides though

Langsdestiny · 21/05/2023 21:43

It's amazing. You can also stay in the cottages on site. Bit pricey but lovely and the pub is amazing for meals.

whoruntheworldgirls · 21/05/2023 21:43

I've been going since my teens and bloody love it, can't wait to take my 6yr old and her friend

HamstersAreMyLife · 12/06/2023 20:33

Other than the recommendation above can anyone suggest somewhere to stay close by? The nearest premier inn/travel lodge isn't in an ideal location and I've looked at loads of b&bs today but nothing where I can fit 4 of us in 1 room. I'm dying to go but want to make a couple of days of the trip.

RedHinge · 12/06/2023 21:45

If you don't like the look of Brompton Lakes look at the website for Holidays at Home, lots of accommodation in that area.

We stayed in one of the on-site cottages one year so we got to go around a few times, was fab. The people who designed that place were definitely on something.

Malham Cove is nearby, if your nerdy friends are Potter nerds (or just like a nice walk and some scenery, of course).

Thank you! It looks lovely at Brompton just couldn't find something affordable for us for what we need. Another time would look there again though. Will have a search, I don't know the area at all and was struggling but there's a campsite near that might work although I'm already camping twice next month so I'll be fed up of it by then!

We took DD when she was about 3 I think and she hated it! She found loads of it scary and wouldn't stop talking about the big scary mouth 🙈

Ouchiebum · 14/06/2023 22:29

Definitely good for any age. Always book the first slot of the day. Is much more fun if you have it nearly to yourself.

Wherestheredonionchutney · 15/06/2023 09:43

We took ds at 5 ish and he was scared in a few bits (although he was a sensitive chap!). Went back when he was 9 and he loved it and requested to go with his friends for his 11th birthday. We let them go off on their own with a plan to meet at a set time and then spent the whole time panicing we'd never see them again 🤣!

Thankfully we did all make it back to the meeting place!

RedHinge · 10/07/2023 16:23

Just reporting back.
We were 2 over 60s and 4 aged 23 to 27 it cost about £100 for 6 of us.

It was ok but not what I hoped for. It's certainly original but not as big as I expected and we had seen everything in a couple of hours. My conclusion was that the DC would have absolutely loved it aged 8 and I failed as a parent by not taking them as children!

Ideal age 5 to 10. I saw people struggling with younger children and it's not very pushchair friendly.

Did you definitely visit the whole area? It would, ime, normally take longer than a couple of hours to walk around the whole of the area and locate everything on the checklist - a couple of which are actually outside the main grounds.

DS1 who is now 18 still talks of the time he was made to go through a big scary mouth and how terrifying it was. In reality he was taken around it due to said terror.
My main memory (apart from DS being scared of the mouth!) is of the froggy garden with the fountains..which we loved.

justlass · 10/07/2023 23:48

We took dd when she was about 8 and she loved most of it, but still talk about the cat and the mice, which she found quite scary! I think it's a fascinating place and would definitely go back. Just original really.

MovingandStressed · 10/07/2023 23:52

Kids loved it but my idea of hell (hate theme parks or anything similar 🤣)
Was fun for them though for sure and not overly busy. My 3 Yr old also didn’t like the mouth.

RedHinge · 12/07/2023 11:20

I'm not surprised your 3 year olds didn't like it. I saw a lot of tearful little ones.
On the other hand mine would have absolutely loved it from about 5 to 10, maybe a little older. As with all childhood experiences it's better to wait until they are the right age to enjoy.
We did see it all except one particulat bit, though with children you might spend an hour or two in the play park. Not saying it wasn't a pleasant trip but just not as fun as I'd hoped.
