Are packing cubes worth it?

I just want an easy life but also don't want to waste money

What's the verdict?

Yes. Keeps things organised and means you can find them easily once you get there.
you can squish a surprising amount in them and means you aren’t sitting on your case to close it

I have some cheap, non-compression, cubes from Wilko for about £5.

I like them for organisation and subsidiary packing - i.e. going away for a night, I can put overnight stuff in a cube inside a rucksack with my day stuff and work stuff or whatever.

Carpediem15 · 19/04/2023 15:42

They are not expensive - mine were about £14 from Amazon and yes they are worth it. T shirts and shorts in 1 - underwear and nightwear in another etc etc so when you arrive easy to unpack and know where things are instead of a mix of everything in a suitcase. Late arrival is made easy as you don't have to go looking for nightwear and toiletries, there they are all together.

Invisimamma · 19/04/2023 15:44

£5 for a set of 3 in Primark. They did make packing much easier. Also when you arrive you can keep some thing in the cubes like socks and underwear so easier to find stuff.

ZenNudist · 19/04/2023 15:45

They are great. I pack a cube per family member. Sometimes we load up the car with cubes instead of cases. It's easy to bung my underwear cube straight in the draw unzipped at my destination. They don't need to be expensive.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/04/2023 15:46

Yes, they are worth it, highly recommended.

Broadbeachshallow · 19/04/2023 15:47

No. And I have never had the slightest problem finding my toiletries and nightwear in my suitcase.

ReviewingTheSituation · 19/04/2023 15:51

Yes. 100% yes. But it does depend what kind of holiday you go on.

If you're on a one-stop trip where you pack at one end and then unpack at the other and stay there for a week or 2, they're probably much less useful.

If you holiday like we do (min 3 stops, maybe 4 or 5 in a 2 week trip), then they are a godsend. It makes a 1 or 2 night stay somewhere so much easier.

Great for camping too - a few packing cubes in a big blue IKEA bag is very much the way to go.

TrishTrix · 19/04/2023 15:55

Yes. Got mine years ago to try after taking the piss out of my friend's husband for his - he colour coded their family!

I am a passionate convert and Suggest them regularly to friends.

Peridot1 · 19/04/2023 15:56

Definitely. They make packing and unpacking so much easier and more organised.

MyEyesAreBleeding · 19/04/2023 15:59

I absolutely love mine but I'm diagnosed OCD, and always packed things in little categories so it just helps me do that.

I have compression and non compression ones. They're also fantastic for keeping my crochet projects in 😁. Or if I'm going out with a backpack I can just throw stuff like my husbands rain jacket in one and put it right at the bottom. I love them and use them all the time.

Dinopawus · 19/04/2023 15:59

See, I don't get underwear cubes at all. Don't you use underwear to tuck into gaps to keep everything else flat?

countrygirl99 · 19/04/2023 16:04

I just shove knickers and socks in shoes/snorkel mask/riding helmet.

Annexlife · 19/04/2023 16:28

100 % if travelling as a family. We use them and it makes unpacking a doddle, especially if staying in a villa with multiple bedrooms. E.g: 2 suitcases, 4 party members, each person gets cubes. On arrival cubes go in right room. I found before I used them everyone's stuff would get mixed up in my attempt to stuff everything in the case and I'm unwinding tights for a teen with husbands running gear.

PuppyMonkey · 19/04/2023 16:36

Another fan here. I loved how organised I was when I went away last year, will definitely use mine again. It helps you work out what you really need and don’t need to take as well. Only a couple of quid on Amazon.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 19/04/2023 16:39

They are great for organisation. If you want to squeeze loads of stuff in, compression sacks are more effective.

Augend23 · 19/04/2023 16:44

I think they can also be good for packing as a family if you're using hold luggage and are worried about a case going missing - you can mix and match different member's cubes in each case so no single person's luggage is likely to go missing in its entirety.

Verassata · 19/04/2023 16:44

Yes, even for just keeping things together like swimwear etc. We all have our own colour and then another colour for tech or toiletries. I have also wound paper tape round the handles and labelled them as I put 3 days worth of clothes in the children's ones. ie t shirt, shorts, underwear for 3 days. You don't have to unpack, just put the cubes into the drawers at the hotel/villa.

I watched a lot of Youtube videos on sizes and brands. Had them years now and still use them for weekends away.

frostyfeb · 19/04/2023 18:07

Yes - was given them as a gift and they transformed my packing. Even my DH was skeptical but agreed to buying more as they were so good.

I use them to pack each persons clothes in a separate cube. So all my tops, bottoms etc in separate cubes. But the only negative is if we are going aboard it means i don't mix the suitcases with the everyone's clothes, so if one case is lost or delayed I would lose all that persons clothes

LadyMargaretDevereux · 19/04/2023 18:19

They are great and if you're travelling around, you can just keep everything in them for an overnight stay and then zip up and repack so quickly it's magic.

TelevisionIcon · 19/04/2023 18:32

Yes - we each have a set of three that fit in perfectly with our soft sided backpack style luggage (they look like suitcases but can be worn like a backpack if needed - just love them!). No worrying about where stuff goes, if its going to fit, etc. We've both got the system down pat.

My uncle had packing cubes first about 15 years ago and we all laughed at him for being such an engineer but now the whole family uses packing cubes.

Got ours cheap at Mountain Warehouse.

Merrow · 19/04/2023 18:37

I don't use them if I'm going away just myself, but great for family holidays as we have one bag.

TheCraicDealer · 19/04/2023 18:50

I got them for our first trip away with DD when she was five kid old and they were a godsend. Stopped tiny clothes spilling all over the inside of the case and kept them all together in the drawers once we arrived at our destination. Unpacking for her and me a done within two minutes, and I put all the clean/unworn stuff in one when packing to come home.

DH on the other hand…he doesn’t like them as he likes to “mould” his clothes in small gaps and shoes etc like a weird little squirrel. He also lives out of the suitcase rather than unpacking once we get to the destination and packing cubes would merely slow his snowplow-like action when hunting for clean pants or t shirts.

HanSB · 19/04/2023 18:58

Yes, totally converted. Makes it easy to organise and pack/unpack - we use a different colour for each person

scrivette · 19/04/2023 19:07

I was sceptical but I am very pleased with mine. Things seem to fit much better and they are great for being organised and looks so tidy too.
