The breathtaking, secluded, wild ones you see on TV etc and don't believe they're in Scotland.

Take a look at Assynt in Sutherland. There are marvellous beaches there, eg Achmelvich and Clachtoll.

Gingerkittykat · 12/01/2023 05:48

The North Coast is utterly beautiful with gorgeous, deserted beaches with clear blue water. I suggest somewhere like Durness.

Clachtoll, Achmelvich and Camusdarach

ImBlueDab · 12/01/2023 06:56

Durness beach.

minopd · 12/01/2023 06:57

Barra and Vatersay have stunning stunning beaches if you are prepared to fly or take the long ferry from Oban. If you fly to Barra you will land on the only scheduled airstrip that IS a a beach!

pisspants · 12/01/2023 07:01

theres a whole stretch if beautiful white sand beaches between Arisaig and Mallaig on the Eest coast which are absolutely stunning

pisspants · 12/01/2023 07:01

that should say West!

HammergoHammer · 12/01/2023 07:03

Loch Morlich. Stay at Glenmore campsite and it'll be right on your doorstep.

Hobbi · 12/01/2023 07:07

Another vote for Camusdarach.

Thank you all, lots of research to do. I'm hoping to drive up from NW England with my touring caravan this Summer.

Its so hard as there are so many
If travelling from the north west I would head to the area around Ayr and Loch Lomond, then Arran as its fab, but book the ferry in advance.
Here are a few ideas.

Thank you. I should have mentioned that I've done a small part of west coast (the Knapdale peninsula)

There are so many... my top 3 (all in the far north west) are
Achmelvich - white sand, turquoise sea and there's a campsite right next to the beach
Sandwood Bay - there's no road access and it's a 4 mile walk to get there but it's huge, wild and stunning
Mellon Udrigle - white sand, turquoise sea and mountains as far as you can see. There's a campsite at Laide a few miles away.

thaegumathteth · 13/01/2023 21:19

Mellon Udrigle is otherworldly

IfOnlyTheyMeantIt · 13/01/2023 21:23

Arisaig and Mallaig. Beautiful white sands. West coast.

yaflouloci · 13/01/2023 22:51

I'm so torn and struggling to make a decision!

Outer Hebrides, but you cannot guarantee the weather

Same for Isle of Skye

Also beaches on the NC500

midsomermurderess · 24/01/2023 17:51

The thing with the NC500, as with its equivalent in Ireland, is that places that used to be infrequently visited, that you often pretty much had to yourself, often no longer are.

Finesterre · 24/01/2023 17:54

Redpoint near Gairloch
Sandwood Bay for grandeur
Almost anywhere on Lewis

RiderOfTheBlue · 24/01/2023 17:59

Coral Beach, near Dunvegan, Skye.

You’ll be so popular on the NC500 pulling a caravan. 😂

Skyellaskerry · 24/01/2023 18:24

With the NC500 I doubt many of the (undoubtedly gorgeous) beaches are secluded and very remote any more except out of season. Except perhaps Sandwood Bay as someone mentioned upthread.

Sanna Bay area Ardnamurchan?

Islay has some lovely beaches and camping, but for more wild and remote the outer Hebrides, most famous beaches on Harris but Uists and Barra stunning. And those white sand beaches are definitely real!

Also the inner hebrides like Tiree and Coll have stunning beaches and great for a 2-island holiday as both islands are very different despite how close to each other they are.

I absolutely can’t comment re taking a caravan though as I don’t have any experience and personally wouldn’t fancy it!

Gingernuttie · 24/01/2023 18:32

I think either tiree or coll has banned campervans/caravans because of the damage they do. Or it might be colonsay, I can't remember!
Some of the beaches mentioned are a decent walk to get to. Some are probably down roads unsuitable for caravans! But basically, there are loads. Just decide which area roughly and then Google them, it won't be hard as they're everywhere. Most aren't that deserted anymore though (unless you are prepared to walk in or you go outwith silly season).

Mykittensmittens · 24/01/2023 18:36

Camusdarach. Great pitches and campsite. Beautiful deserted beach. Turquoise water. White sand. Sunsets!
