London where to stay between central London and Walthamstow?

Hi

We are a family of 5. 2 adults and 3 kids aged 6 11 and 13.

We will be travelling into London Kings Cross station via train on 11th Feb to attend a family event. After this we are hoping to stay on and explore the touristy bits of London until the 15th. We are also looking to visit a couple of the main museums and my DP wants to have a walk around Harrods.

I need to find a hotel/premier inn/travelodge which will be central so that I can easily get to all the places I want to go to. Preferably somewhere close to an underground station. My maximum budget is £800.

All suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I just looked on Uber -£31 in an Uber Xl (6 plus driver) from Walthamstow Central station to Kings Cross to give you an estimate price

Premier inn King's Cross or St Pancras so you can leave your luggage without having to drag it across London by bus/tube. It's easy to get places from KGX

How about the YHA at Kings Cross? Great private rooms. Hotels round there can be a bit iffy. Def def travel to Walthamstow by tube. Late in the evening it could be £50+ in a black cab, and barely less in an Uber for 5. Tube is quick, clean, easy, safe.

As you now want to stay somewhere more central, Westminster is well located without being too busy. Very near all the museums etc. Great transport links. We lived in London until very recently, but would often grab a hotel in central here and there for a change of scenery. We really like the Blue Orchid hotel in Westminster! You can get the Thames clipper from near there (highly recommend it!).

I just stuck the OP's dates and no. of people (i.e. 2 rooms needed) into the Premier Inn website and the only hotel in a reasonable location within the tight £800 budget is Old St.

Others within budget are Canary Wharf, Brixton, Dalston and Clapham. Prices are £768-799 except for Canary Wharf which is a new hotel so a bargain £564. Worth considering with the Elizabeth line now open as it's only 15 mins from the Wharf to the West End. And saving £235 would easily cover a taxi to Walthamstow.

I wouldn’t stay around King’s Cross as never feel that comfortable walking back to hotel after dark. Prefer Southbank near Waterloo. Premier Inn County Hall is amazing location (opposite Houses of Parliament, next to London Eye) and easy to get to King’s Cross from Waterloo which is five mins walk.

Premier Inn County Hall is fully booked (almost all the central-ish Premier Inns are) and even if it wasn't, it would be over the OP's budget. Unfortunately she's left it rather late to book if she wants decent prices.

King's Cross is also out of the OP's budget but is perfectly safe at night. It's not the early 1990s when it was rough around the edges.
