Whitby or Scarborough?

Looking to go away for 3-4 nights soon. Me, my partner & 2 very small children (22 month & 10 month).

Which place would you recommend out of the two?

Any advice/ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'd go to Bridlington, about 12 miles South of Scarborough. There is more parking, 2 lovely large beaches, a little train, spa, amusements, wide promanade, a pier, lovely fish and chips. Lots of places to visit, John Bull rock, Sewerby Hall with petting animals, birds of prey.

Haven caravan site is Primrose Valley, just outside Filey bay, about 6 miles from Bridlington. Cayton Bay is really only a surfers beach, not somewhere for children.

Whitby is beautiful but it's become a victim of its own success. It's absolutely packed most of the time and a lot more expensive now.
Scarborough's North Bay and castle are lovely and traditional, the South being full of amusements, rides, bowling, ice-cream parlours and some fabulous fish and chip places.
It only takes thirty minutes to get from Scarborough to Whitby. Robin Hood's Bay, Filey and Bridlington aren't far either.
