Nicest areas to stay in north Wales?

Thinking of going on a cottage break in Sept to north wales - 2 adults and 20 month old. We like walking, beaches etc. where are the best areas to stay?

Trawsfynnydd log cabins at Bronaber are brilliant. We book through a company called Cadair View Lodge but you can book through the main site or from individual owners.

Offandonagain · 23/07/2022 11:43

Trawsfynydd is nowhere near the beach, in Welsh terms.

Anglesey is lovely OP… Rhoscolyn on Holy Island is my fave!

The Lleyn is lovely… Nefyn/Aberdaron are nice.

Conwy is lovely too

Conwy
llandudno - I’m a big fan of the faded genteel resort vibe

Avoid Talacre!

Randomuser9876 · 23/07/2022 11:47

Conwy or anglesey

ShanghaiDiva · 23/07/2022 11:56

Conwy

GenialHarryGr0ut · 23/07/2022 12:05

Llandudno.
Perfect holiday destination

MayDaze · 23/07/2022 12:10

Deganwy tends to be cheaper than Conwy, because it's not as well known, but it is opposite Conwy and on the way to Llandudno. Its more of a residential area, although it does cater to tourists. It isn't overly pretty or quaint, but neither is it scruffy. There's a marina, a nice pram-friendly walk along the shore and if you go further along there is also West Shore (on the way to Llandudno) which is a lovely beach area. It has a cafe and a little park, a car park or on-road parking, a little boating pond and then the beach itself which I don't think is very well-known to tourists (who would probably go to Llandudno beach instead). There aren't any arcades or suchlike, so it's quieter. The water is quite shallow and protected by the Great Orme, so doesn't always get as choppy as Llandudno beach which is on the other side of the headland.

I adore the place. Its only 1.5 hours from home so I do on occasion "pop" down there for the day to refresh my soul! The Great Orme is my spiritual home 😂 I just need to pretend there aren't any other tourists up there when I go!

Llandudno has all the typical seaside attractions, but it's not dirty and the beach is nice.

I could rave about the place, I love it so much.

(I've travelled the world, seen amazing sights and places, but Snowdonia is my favourite place ever. So I'm a bit biased 😉)

MayDaze · 23/07/2022 12:12

Just to add - I love Conwy but it's a nightmare for parking and gets VERY busy at peak times. That's how we discovered Deganwy, because we wanted to have Conwy on the doorstep but avoid the hustle and bustle.

Craftybodger · 23/07/2022 12:22

Just been to Llandudno and was pleasantly surprised how lovely it was. Would definitely consider a holiday there. There seemed to be plenty of beaches in the area and a lot to do in the wider area.

Lonelycrab · 23/07/2022 12:24

I like Dollgellau and the surrounding area myself, it’s a good base to start from for lots of Snowdonia, albeit the southern end of the National park. It’s not too busy too, at least that’s been my experience.

Ive always stayed at the gorgeous Graig Wen campsite but the have self catering appts too and space for camper vans.

Beyws y Coed is beautiful, and right in the central north part but can get pretty overwhelming in the height of summer as it’s so popular. It’s a great place to start from if you’re doing the more popular walks around the northern part of Snowdonia.

Kitkatsareace · 23/07/2022 12:25

Another vote for Llandudno here. Also Anglesey as it’s lovely.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 23/07/2022 12:28

Lithfaen is a village near Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsular. We rented a terraced cottage there a couple of years ago for a week. We had a lovely time.

Cheeseandlobster · 23/07/2022 12:29

The Llyn Peninsula everytime. Its beautiful

welshweasel · 23/07/2022 12:33

We stayed here - was a brilliant break, so much to do with young kids within 30 mins drive.

Another vote for the Llyn peninsula, especially the northern side near Nefyn/ Tudweliog/ Llangwynadl (sp?). Fantastic beaches, lovely coastal walks

🤣 I grew up nr Talacre. The lighthouse is cool!

Offandonagain · 23/07/2022 12:53

It’s Lleyn. Not Llyn. Llyn is a lake

AuntieMarys · 23/07/2022 12:59

Aberdyfi or Tywyn

MamaFoxToBe · 23/07/2022 13:00

Barmouth

What's wrong with Talacre then? We live in North Wales and go there regularly. Lovely beach, never anyone on it!

supertedious · 23/07/2022 13:06

Harlech has the most beautiful beaches and not far from Barmouth.

Conwy lovely to visit, gets very busy though.

Portmeirion, lots to see, Snowdonia in the background and close to stunning beaches like Black Rock Sands.

Love north Wales "Cymru am Byth" Smile.

He beach is fab! Love the dunes. I live close by and you’re right.

But my sis worked at Greenacres and it’s a shit hole holiday park. Maybe the op means there?

countdowntonap · 23/07/2022 13:25

Another vote for Anglesey. Trearddur Bay (5 mins from Rhoscolyn mentioned above) would be a great base with a 20month old.

Funf · 23/07/2022 16:25

Its a big area and just mentioning coastal places you need one holiday on the Llyn peninsular and one based around Conwy and another based in Barmouth.
Llyn peninsula is fantastic
Criccieth Llanbedrog
Porth Dinellen all nice but different
The Area around Conwy, llandudno, Deganwy is also great as its very varied with loads to see and do and easy to get to with great transport links.
Some ideas here

Barmouth is a lovely resort Harlech has a fab large beach it is just up the road or south to, Borth, Aberystwth, New Quay and Aberporth

If you want Fish, Chips and Bingo, Towny, Prestatyn & Rhyl is full of big holiday parks that are great value, but two miles inland is tranquil scenery, it all depends on what you want we have had great holidays and day trips in all of them.

It’s Lleyn. Not Llyn. Llyn is a lake

It’s actually neither. It’s Llŷn. Llyn is indeed a lake but Llŷn is the correct spelling.

Lleyn is antiquated/Anglicised and now considered incorrect.

Born, bred and living in Pen LlÅ·n.
