Looking for a week / few days in September, me dh and dog. Just want somewhere with beautiful stunning scenery, quaint shops. Just pretty.
We might camp or air bnb.
we will just want to have a good walk everyday or a mooch with a coffee.
Just a good bit of nature and amazing scenery for a week. Trees and views. anywhere… will look at anything! Any suggestions please?

Many places I haven’t seen in the U.K. but I agree that Snowdonia is stunning.

Another vote for Shropshire and/or the Powys border Marches area. Lots of walking opportunities and the chance to explore great little towns (agree Ludlow with PP, it's gorgeous, Shrewsbury interesting for food and shopping too)There are parts that feel utterly remote but really aren't. It will be lovely in September (wistful)

Purbeck area of Dorset - you have beaches, Corfe Castle, heathland, clifftop walks, rocky coves, Arne RSPB reserve, quaint cafes and tea shops all over the place. Lots of holiday rentals, dogs love it :D.

I don't want to bring things down. I live in Scotland and am going to the Outer Hebrides several times this year, but in all the Scottish places mentioned the midgeys will be FIERCE in September. When I'm in Harris in mid September we won't be going far, which is ok cos we used to live there so have done the tourist stuff. I certainly wouldn't be walking in the hills then, I like my skin the way it is.

Go to Skye, Mull, etc over Easter or in the early summer (May can often be the best time of ear). Definitely go!!

Didn't have a midge problem in September last year in the Cairngorms

FogoInn · 12/07/2022 17:31

If you want to avoid midges in late summer in Scotland you need to head east.
For September I would avoid anywhere west in uk. Start of the autumn rainy season.

I second this! I'm from the North Coast of NI and love it, it will always be home to me. It's got so much to offer; great food and restaurants, people are generally really friendly, fantastic places to stay from swanky hotels to beautiful AirBnbs, glamping or great B&Bs. In September the vast majority of the holiday crowds and second home owners have gone so lots of places won't be too crowded, you'll have beauty spots and beaches to yourself. There's also a good train service to Derry or Belfast if you need a taste of the city. But I love the north Antrim coast especially Ballycastle and the Glens of Antrim.

Fort William area - stunning (Glencoe, coastal area, Glen Etive, Glenfinnnian etc)

That was very lucky, though they are more of a west coast/island thing and if I remember right last year was a pretty good year. It depends a lot on how wet it's been, so this could be another good year for some parts of Scotland.

We went camping in Skye in September, pre children. Drove from Edinburgh to Skye, pitched the tent, it was full of midges so we slept in the car and drove home the next morning! You'd think that would have put me off but no, went to live in the Outer Hebrides and still have our wee house there, and go back several times a year, midgeys or not!

Sorry OP for hijack!

The Lakes.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 12/07/2022 17:44

Studland Bay, Corfe, sandbanks. Fab campsite at Burnbake.

Eastern Scotland. Pitlochry and surrounds, or East Neuk of Fife.
Or the borders around Montrose area.
Or north Yorkshire - Whitby and surrounds.
Or the south Wales coast - the Gower, Tenby etc
Isle of Wight - loads of great walking and can see loads in a week
North Cornwall - Bude, Tintagel etc
South Downs/Brighton area

So many beautiful places in the UK (although can you tell I am totally landlocked, and love to visit the coast whenever I can!)

Fairislefandango · 12/07/2022 18:00

Lake District!

QuebecBagnet · 12/07/2022 18:01

New forest is nice, good woodland walks, moor land walks, near the coast, pop over to Isle of Wight, nice villages with independent shops in the forest, close to Salisbury and Winchester for bigger towns.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 12/07/2022 18:05

West coast of Wales anywhere from the bottom to the Llyn peninsula., especially around Aberdyfi and Barmouth to Harlech where you have the mountains and the sea.
Simply beautiful.

Hoppinggreen · 12/07/2022 18:06

Northumbria

SewingBees · 12/07/2022 18:07

Tyne valley/Hadrian's wall

DontKeepTheFaith · 12/07/2022 18:07

We are in the Peak District currently, staying in Castleton. Walking is incredible and the town is so pretty.

I liked the Pembrokeshire coast. It has stunning scenery and amazing beaches but quieter than eg Cornwall. You can also do boat trips if you fancy something different.

Another vote for Pembrokeshire.

Nateismine · 12/07/2022 18:11

Isles of Scilly

Firesidefox · 12/07/2022 18:15

Northumberland

MeatballMeatball · 12/07/2022 18:21

Most dog friendly places I’ve been recently

northumberland, best beaches in U.K. in my humble opinion
kirkby lonsdale
Lake District, I like Keswick
Isle of Man, very accessible walking, good transport, glens, hills , beaches.

great pubs, and restaurants, all accept dogs.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/07/2022 18:23

Lots of good options already suggested. If it's just a week or few days then I'd go for one of the nearer ones (though the journey from the centre of the U.K. i.e Lancashire up to Skye is mostly fabulous before you even get there!)

If you're more southerly then I'll throw Exmoor and its coast into the mix.

Totally agree

Bakewell Derbyshire is nice loads of places to visit. Beautiful walks around the Monsal trail and Cheedale. There’s Dovedale, Matlock bath on the rowing boats or the cable cars. Great shops in Bakewell and Ashbourne.Chatsworth house and Haddon Hall are gorgeous.
