LOVE Conwy - where else is similar?

We are on holiday in Conwy, North Wales. It ticks every single box for me. I am loving it more than any other Uk destination we have been. Where else can I go that is similar?

What we love about Conwy:

  • coastal and beautiful (castle, boats etc). We don’t need a beach but do need water.

  • larger than a village so lots to see and do (love historic stuff like old houses and castles)

  • total foodie destination. Excellent butcher, baker, local coffees, fab restaurants etc.

  • train station is vital. We have no car and travel by train from London

Any thoughts? We travel as a family of 5. But all kids are teens/adults and like similar to my list above.

Keswick

Yes, that famous seaside resort with a train station - Keswick.

I think if you love Conwy, you would be disappointed by Berwick. There is not a lot to do. Given that you need trains, I would do Exeter, because you can get to Exmouth and I think the city is interesting. Whitby has a train station and is the closest I can think of to what you describe. Shrewsbury is also really lovely, but in a different way.

Shrewsbury? Not coastal but has a lovely river. Great foodie town with lots of old mediaeval buildings and a castle. Many restaurants and coffee shops. Amazing countryside all around, you can get a train to Church Stretton which is gorgeous, or to Ludlow for more of the same history and foodie loveliness!

Yes, totally agree. You can relax by the river in quarry Park or have lunch in the boathouse.

Thanks all for the further suggestions. Some of them we have done already. We are avoiding Devon and Cornwall in the summer. We have done a lot of Devon coasts before anyway.

We did Llandudno for the day when in Conwy. Did not like the town. Definitely not what we are looking for.

Whitby and that coast is something I keep looking at and does draw me in.

We do not want inland or river however beautiful. It needs to be coastal.

To the person who suggested Teigmoutn, we actually stayed in Shaldon last summer. Loved Shaldon (though a little small) but did not love Teignmouth.

Lymington is a new one to me - I will look.

@Dimdimdim we ate at The Erskine Arms, The Lava Kitchen, Signature Restaurant, and the pub at the marina all of which were excellent. Everywhere is expansive though.

Just been to Conwy today, ate at The Flowerpot Cafe in St.Asaph on the way as its first class

We noticed a few new eating and drinking places have opened in Conwy so have to try a few more

We felt like that about Llandudno too, when we went it was a Misty day and it felt really eerie and gave me a bad vibe, the sea looked really dirty and the town very dated.

Another suggestion would be Bridport/west bay or Lyme Regis. I am a bit bias with Dorset as it’s my home but there are some lovely places.

Beaumaris
Dolgellau (not coastal but within a couple of miles)
Hebden Bridge (again not coastal)
Oban and Fort William in Scotland both have loads to do.
