Lake District this summer

So we are thinking of going for 3 maybe 4 nights this summer. We are very flexible as long as it’s in the school holidays.
Ive been on booking.com for an hour changing dates to see what I can find and I am going a bit cross eyed. I don’t know why there isn’t a flexible dates option.
Can anyone recommend some good self catering accommodation to look at. Needs to have 2 rooms. Thanks

Limefitt Holiday Park is a bit nicer than your average caravan park. The setting is stunning, there’s no tacky entertainment/arcades/bar but there’s a great traditional pub on site, plus an adventure playground.

www.lakelandhideaways.co.uk/
We’ve used this company several times. Not sure of availability for this year but I think you can filter flexible dates.
Cottages.com do a flexible option too.

That cottage search has been useful thanks!

we’re coming with a teenager - should have said - so donr need child friendly particularly

Sally’s cottages
Cumbrian cottages.

we’ve used both of these.

Try the youth hostels.

Try Lakeland retreats lakelandretreats.com/

Self catering often has a 7night friday to Friday or Saturday to Saturday stay in peak season, 3 or 4 nights can be very hard to find unless you stay in hotels.

SimpleHoardOfTruth · 05/06/2022 13:02

Air BnB tend to be most flexible on dates.

rookiemere · 05/06/2022 13:08

We're just back from Hillcroft Park at Pooley Bridge. They have caravans and lodges and it's within walking distance of the centre.

bk1981 · 05/06/2022 17:36

You're more likely to find a short stay on airbnb or a caravan/glamping Park. Traditional cottages tend to ask for a weeks stay at peak times.

Borisblondboufant · 06/06/2022 15:32

I’m actually finding lots of self catering places that are flexible on dates. Just not in my price range just yet….

Then it's your budget that's the issue! Although I've tried booking short stays in the past and realised they were quoting prices based on a 7 night stay which made it seem expensive per night.

Isseywith3witchycats · 11/06/2022 19:38

Borrowdale youth hostel reasonably priced does a cracking full cooked brekkie and food at night the top end of the lakes is stunning and not so commercialised as the bottom end

Isseywith3witchycats · 11/06/2022 19:39

or you can use the kitchen to cook your own food

Loughrigg77 · 13/06/2022 13:34

Try this place: fairly reasonably priced for a week and good location. Haven't checked availability though

Loughrigg77 · 13/06/2022 13:35

Sorry forgot to say I don't know if you can stay for shorter periods than a week

PineappleWilson · 13/06/2022 13:46

@Isseywith3witchycats out of interest, when did you last stay in a youth hostel? We tried to book one (not in the Lake district) for Easter this year, last autumn, and they only did sausage / bacon rolls, not the decent cooked breakfasts we'd had before. Covid thing apparently. I just wondered whether they'd relaxed this more recently.

Loughrigg77 · 13/06/2022 13:55

@PineappleWilson we stayed in a YH in the Dales last month and they did a full breakfast. No evening meal though

Borisblondboufant · 13/06/2022 15:02

I don’t think DD would do well in a youth hostel sadly, she’s very anxious and from my experience of my youth as they would be too noisy for her. All the food has to be ours because of food allergies as well, so self catering.

I'm debating staying in Penrith and then travelling over every day, although it looks a pain.

we used to go over a lot, I’m just shocked at how prices have jumped. We used to spend about £100 a night and it’s double now.

www.cottages.com/search?sort=priceasc&page=1&adult=2&child=1&infant=0&pets=0&nights=4&range=7&regionName=Cumbria&regionId=21966&start=01-08-2022

I’ve just done a search for 4 nights in the holidays +/- 7 days, for Cumbria and it’s thrown up some matches. Cottages.com are fine, have had several short breaks with them. I think you can refine it to The Lake District too, but outside the National Park can be cheaper.

Borisblondboufant · 15/06/2022 11:00

That’s really helpful thanks. Interesting so many places are the same price for 3 and 4 nights.

Sallyingon · 15/06/2022 20:09

If you've not already booked have a look at absolute-escapes. You can't book online but you can see availability calendars. There are a couple of cottages in Glenridding that are v good value and excellent location and I think they do short breaks.

Borisblondboufant · 15/06/2022 22:26

That’s also helpful thanks

I can't recommend these camping barns enough. VERY basic though, so be prepared to eat out some nights.
