Manchester hotels/accommodation weekend of Sep 11

Last minute booking for Dd who has an event that weekend and I cannot find any budget hotel or reasonable airbnb (up to £120/night for a room) - a quick look and it seems like ££££ for a room that weekend.

Had a google and can see there are concerts - Megan Thee Stallion on Friday and Migos on Saturday.

Not sure if this is the norm for Manchester or if it's bcos of these events - does this mean that I will not get anything affordable anywhere close to the city centre during that time? Never seen anything like it Confused

Where's the audition?

RaskolnikovsGarret · 30/08/2021 23:49

The train from Macclesfield to Stockport only takes about 17 mins, and the trains are quite regular I think?

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:50

It's at Chets - I have been looking further out and it's still ££££

Gone to bed - will have a think if I know anyone remotely in that part of the world!

I hate to tell you this but I live on that train route and the first train from Macclesfield to Manchester gets in at 10.29

Comefromaway · 30/08/2021 23:51

On a Sunday

RaskolnikovsGarret · 30/08/2021 23:51

Sorry, being stupid. Macclesfield to Manchester takes 30 minutes.

Good luck to your daughter.

Don't they have border's ? Maybe they will let her stay overnight, it's definitely worth a phone call

Redshoeblueshoe · 31/08/2021 00:01

Excuse my spelling Blush

Ring Chets to see what they advise - sounds like there’ll be plenty of families in the same position if it’s an audition weekend and they have made provision?

TheCarrs · 31/08/2021 06:48

@Maggiethecat

Macclesfield (1 hour away) comes up Confused

Macclesfield is just over twenty minutes on the fast train, bit longer on the slow one, three trains an hour usually.

Travelodge is right next to the station.

Not a clue why it’s so cheap, or what it’s like.... but it’s about a ten minute train and then ten minute tram ride away.

emmathedilemma · 31/08/2021 08:19

I’d look on the metrolink lines rather than trains as I suspect most trains won’t get her into the city centre early enough. There’s a couple of hotels in Altrincham close to the station and also Bury and Rochdale would be worth checking. Salford will probably be sold out if there’s football on at old Trafford.

Maggiethecat · 31/08/2021 09:13

The more I think about it is the more I feel she’d be better off outside the city on Saturday night.

Chets is next to Victoria station so she would be better staying places north of Manchester that go through that station... Be it tram or train

Comefromaway · 31/08/2021 10:56

How old is she? Are you going with her.

Its a bed sit with a minimum age of 24.
tabulahrasa · 31/08/2021 12:29

Ah... did not notice the minimum age, that’ll be no use then.

Mother87 · 01/09/2021 17:02

Did you get sorted?

Maggiethecat · 01/09/2021 22:02

@Mother87 - work's been mad!

Almost sorted (I think 🤔) - the course organiser blocked some rooms at a relatively decent rate so they're looking to allocate her one.

Fingers crossed!

If she doesn't get sorted try Village hotel Ashton under lyne it's on the tram route takes about 20 mins. There's also a travel lodge in the same area.
