Manchester hotels/accommodation weekend of Sep 11

Last minute booking for Dd who has an event that weekend and I cannot find any budget hotel or reasonable airbnb (up to £120/night for a room) - a quick look and it seems like ££££ for a room that weekend.

Had a google and can see there are concerts - Megan Thee Stallion on Friday and Migos on Saturday.

Not sure if this is the norm for Manchester or if it's bcos of these events - does this mean that I will not get anything affordable anywhere close to the city centre during that time? Never seen anything like it Confused

Prices are crazy right now. I was looking for a night at the beginning of October. I was flabbergasted at prices. £220 for a bloody basic hotel. I gave it up as a bad job. The world is going mad!

TokyoSushi · 30/08/2021 23:07

Wow, I've just looked for you (I used to work in a hotel in Manchester so know it very, very well and understand the pricing) those are exceptionally high prices. I think that Ronaldo is making his debut with Utd on 11th September, it'll likely be linked.

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:09

Ronaldo too? FFS! the closest we'll get to stay is probably London!!

Yep, just looked again, that's mega football rates, avoid if you can,the hotels know those prices are utterly ridiculous, but they also know that people will pay.

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:12

It's not just the hotels though, it's airbnb too! she'll have to rough it on the streets - told her she may as well busk while she's at it!

It'll be everything, I just looked at the airport which is usually cheaper, and Liverpool which is the same, can she give it up as a bad job? Its very unlikely to change...

Rafting2022 · 30/08/2021 23:14

Does the event finish late or would there be an option to stay somewhere outside Manchester eg Warrington, Wigan? Don’t suppose she drives?

EmeraldGreenVelvet · 30/08/2021 23:17

Parklife Festival is in Manchester that weekend, in Heaton Park. No camping so everyone attending will have to stay somewhere.

TokyoSushi · 30/08/2021 23:20

Oh my, Parklife as well, I can imagine the glee in my old reservations department with those rates!

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:25

OMG! it gets worse!
She has a flipping' audition.

OP posts:
Rafting2022 · 30/08/2021 23:29

What time will it finish?

TokyoSushi · 30/08/2021 23:33

Can she drive? Can somebody who can drive go with her? Once the audition finishes I'd either just drive home, or as far away from Manchester as you can!

It's really just crazy when it gets like that, I have very stressful memories of the X Factor final and a big Man Utd home game one Saturday night in December many years ago, it was like that then, and I was the hotel Duty Manager, absolute nightmare!

It's Park Life and Uni dropping off weekend. A friend booked Burnley as she'd tried Wigan, Bury, Oldham, etc. Good luck!

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:37

She starts at 9am on Sunday and it lasts the whole day so she needs to be there from Saturday night. But I'm suspecting that the city will be bedlam on Saturday night, won't be a quiet night 😩

Need to have a think......quick

Prices sky rocket when there’s home football games. Have made this mistake before on city breaks. Hope you find somewhere.

Maybeyesno · 30/08/2021 23:38

The youth hostel in Manchester is great if they have availability.

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:40

I wondered if I was seeing doubles (or trebles!) when my searches were yielding £500+ per night on multiple sites!

Frazzled2207 · 30/08/2021 23:42

Try Stockport. There is a central premier inn and travelodge and others and train into Manchester dead easy (10 minutes, very frequent). Not very exciting but safe and cheap.

Frazzled2207 · 30/08/2021 23:42

(Hopefully)

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:42

@Maybeyesno - no availability there either - like everywhere else the next dates are for following w/e

OP posts:
Mother87 · 30/08/2021 23:43

Just out of interest, what/where is her audition? Could she stay 'further out' and get the tram there on the Sunday morning?

Maggiethecat · 30/08/2021 23:43

All premier inns in Manchester were sold out when I checked earlier but will have a look at Stockport again for other hotels

Macclesfield (1 hour away) comes up Confused

We went to the theatre the weekend of Parklife. It was manic. We had been planning to stay over but ended up driving home as we couodnt book anywhere.
