Country house hotel for maiden aunt??

Want to take elderly aunt for dinner and over night stay in country house hotel near London. Just looking for a peaceful place with good food, garden and nice rooms. No need for spa etc. Nothing too fancy. Must have lifts or ground floor bedroom. Any ideas?

Why is her being unmarried relevant? I am picturing you taking Miss Marple to tea at Bertram's hotel.

@RockingMyFiftiesNot

I understand what you’re saying but there are two key points.

1/How many people on this thread immediately assumed maiden refered to virginity, irrelevant of what google or the guardian say, anecdotally we can see people think it refers to sexual history in common language.

2/Her Marital status is not relevant in this context.

Mistressinthetulips · 14/05/2021 09:31

Rockingmyfifties stating she is unmarried is just unnecessary. It's like stating you are taking your white/black aunt to tea. You just wouldn't mention something that you don't think is relevant. Only relevant if you think an unmarried older woman will have certain tastes that a married/widowed/divorced one would not.
Hope the OP finds somewhere nice anyway.

That’s it! Yes, something like Bertram’s hotel for tea would be perfect!

Being unmarried affected her whole life choices and her tastes and pursuits as well as the fact that her main relationship is with me and her other nephews and nieces. However, all points taken and please do let me have any more hotel recommendations that might suit an elderly quiet aunt with limited mobility.

I will accept that the aunt's marital status is irrelevant although i suspect OP used it describe a genteel older lady that was looking for a pleasant environment rather than a rave.

Please can we leave it at that and let the poor OP have her hotel thread back (OP you might want to ask for title to be changed to allow this thread to provide you with the info you want.)

Bertram's hotel was a cover for organised crime Wink

Not able to help the op with a hotel suggestion but feel the objections to the term maiden aunt are not justified. What's so wrong with being a maiden aunt? It just means she never married and suggests she may be reminiscent of Jane Austen, a very successful maiden aunt.

Oakley Hall hotel in Hampshire would fit your needs I think
