Holiday cottage - bath or shower? Or both?!

Looking to buy a property to run as holiday let but wondering if there was no bath would it put you off?

Thanks

Yes. You need a bath for people to be able to wash their children.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 11/03/2021 15:11

Yes, shower over bath would be the best option.

HipHopBanzai · 11/03/2021 15:19

I'd only have been bothered about a bath when the DC were tiny. I wouldn't be bothered not to have one now. Absolutely wouldn't stay somewhere without a shower though.

MrsMackesy · 11/03/2021 15:41

Both if possible, shower over the bath or a hand held shower or even a mixer tap is fine if not, but we wouldn't book a holiday let without a bath - personal preference for a soak and for DC. I know you haven't asked this, but we prefer a dishwasher and a washing machine but a washing machine is the most important - dishes can be washed by hand but most clothes can't without it being a huge faff. No need for a dryer really if there is a line and an airer (and not a washer/dryer as they tend to be useless IME).

Ahhhhhhh, holidays. What a thought.

Jungfraujoch · 11/03/2021 16:05

I would want a bath too but was doubting myself! So thank you all for confirming that!

Washing machine is a definite and dishwasher if room. Thank you.

Ah see, I would say a dishwasher was more important than a washing machine for a holiday let- you tend to take enough clothes for your stay but you make dishes all day every day!

emmathedilemma · 11/03/2021 16:30

For a 1 bed property i think a shower only would be ok as i suspect it would only attract adults, but if there's space to sleep kids then a bath is really needed.

rosesarered321 · 11/03/2021 16:31

Definitely bath with shower over.

There was a long thread recently about washing machine versus dishwasher in a holiday let. The majority, I think, preferred a dishwasher. I wouldn't book without a dishwasher.

redcandlelight · 11/03/2021 16:35

I wouldn't remt a holiday home without shower, but shower over bath is acceptable.

PolarnOPirate · 11/03/2021 17:38

Both. Pretty easy to put a shower above a bath I think? May as well do it.

I hate baths and my kids hate showers. Although one holiday let only had a shower and we managed, but the kids were small enough to squeeze into the provided baby bath together and have the shower rain on them, which was novel enough.

YellowDaffidols · 11/03/2021 17:46

What size property?
If you might appeal to families with young kids, you need a bath. I'd have thought adults would expect a shower, but it doesn't need to be separate.
I'd prioritise a dishwasher over a washing machine - plates need washing everyday, but I can do a week without washing, or by rinsing the odd thing through in the sink.

Cattenberg · 11/03/2021 17:53

A few weeks ago, I found a lovely holiday cottage online. But it only had a shower, and my three year old is scared of them. She won’t even let me rinse her hair with a handheld shower. So we booked another cottage, with a bath.

I don’t know if it has a dishwasher. But as washing up is usually a quick job, I’m not bothered. If I had several kids, I might feel differently.

I also had a look at the stairs in all the cottages. Don’t like an open or spiral staircase.

partyatthepalace · 11/03/2021 18:09

Yes - shower over bath is fine.

Lulu1919 · 11/03/2021 18:11

Bath with shower over if you can't have both of it's a two bedrooms or more
Something meant for a couple you could get away it's shower only if you make it very high spec

willibald · 11/03/2021 18:13

Both! Shower over bath is fine. But not just for kids, I love taking lovely bath goodies to self-catering holiday cottage and having a soak.

HelloDulling · 11/03/2021 18:14

Both. And a washer and a dishwasher too!

idontlikealdi · 11/03/2021 18:18

Shower over bath if you're aiming at families. Otherwise shower.

purplecorkheart · 11/03/2021 18:44

What is your target market? If it is adult surfing enthusiasm people in their 20's a shower, a family with young kids a bath. How many bathrooms/toilets and how many do you plan that the house can hold. I would be avoiding a bath if my house held six people and I had only two loos.

Justajot · 11/03/2021 18:55

We're fine with only a shower. My youngest is 6, so is amenable to being hosed down occasionally.

As others say, it depends on your target market.

irregularegular · 11/03/2021 19:00

Depends on target market (related to size and location). If targeting families then a decent shower over bath is a good compromise. If targeting adults then I prefer a nice, big walk in shower is better.
I would not book a holiday let without a good shower. It could be over bath, but not just hand-held. I rule out those places with a free-standing bath with just a hand-held shower. You sometimes see it for a romantic boutique look.

I'm in similar position and for a small, city place the airbnb host advised probably to go for nice big shower.

Silkies · 11/03/2021 19:05

I prefer a bath, sometimes I will rule out if no bath, depends what options are - if its a really special location or property am more flexible but if its two roughly equal would go with one with bath. Bath with shower over works if there's a space issue.

starfishmummy · 11/03/2021 19:10

Definitely a bath and a shower over.

bruffin · 12/03/2021 09:08

I would want dishwasher over washing machine , prefer shower to bath.
ApolloandDaphne · 12/03/2021 09:12

I would prefer just a shower. A nice walk in one. A shower over a bath would stop my DM booking as she feels unsafe climbing in and out of a bath. This reason may put off a number of older people. I can see people with children would prefer a bath though. I guess it depends what your key demographic is likely to be.

IdblowJonSnow · 12/03/2021 09:12

Both.
If it's a roll top I'd be straight in it myself, nevermind the kids!

Many people do more walking than usual on these types of breaks so might relish the opportunity of a good soak afterwards.
