Things to bring back form Scotland?

We have a 2-week trip to Scotland. I am planning on spending some money up there on ourselves and Christmas shopping (apologies!)

We are going to Edinburgh, the west coast, and isles and Pitlochry.

What is good to bring back from Scotland in terms of clothing, other stuff, and food? I am not looking for souveneirs.

I think the traditional souvenirs from your summer holiday in Scotland are waterproofs and midge repellent. Take your wellies with you. For non-tat souvenirs what about World Peace Tartan woollen goods,as modelled by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu? Can never have too many pure wool rugs and blankets. Scottish ex-pats usually miss foodstuffs. For Christmas shopping I'd take a look at National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh;Hamilton & Inches Jewellers & Silversmiths, George Street, Edinburgh; Blair Atholl Watermill in the hope the shop still sells its muesli ( why not in their online shop);farm shops passed en route. Quite a lot of craftspeople and shops in Skye. Think I'm going to start a quest for the most expensive artisan soap in Western Europe.

The only thing I've found that Scotland sells and England doesn't is empire biscuits. They are yum. Not sure what else you'd bother with.

Edradour cream liqueur, like baileys but SO much better

I love Pitlochry, they have the best chippy! I live about 2 hours from it and my husband and I have honestly considered driving through just for the fish and chips.

Plain loaf. Bloody love the stuff can’t find it anywhere in England so always bring a few loafs back and freeze them to make it last as long as possible!

Also snowballs - sponge with jam in middle wrapped in icing and coconut always get these too

There's a shop in Buchanan Galleries that sells (very nice) local craft produce that's a good shout for the soap. Grin

If you are going to the Highlands and Islands, you will come across local distilleries and various art galleries and workshops of potteries/jewellers/knitters on your travels.

garlictwist Shock Wait, what?! No empire biscuits south of the border?! Can this be right?! They seem pedestrian enough - though delicious - to seem unspecialised but perhaps not?

I actually prefer a Belgian biscuit, but, still. Biscuit

Red Kola, chip shop sauce, butteries, tablet, square sausage, proper fish supper and Lucas ice cream . Not quite sure that's what you were after though 😂

Irn bru

@Jaffajam

Tattie scones, square sausage, Ayrshire bacon. I have genuinely not seen a Scotch pie for YEARS (I'm in England but have lots of family in Scotland).
Our village shop in East Anglia was bought by a Scot and makes Scotch pies 😀
Mrsjayy · 03/03/2021 13:14

They have taken "something" out of Red kola it tasted like weak vimto I bet it's the sugar 😀

The numbers are very low in Scotland. There is loads of doom and gloom on this thread. If we are still in a lockdown in July......I will eat my own hand.

@Babdoc

In the novel “The Windsor Knot”, Prince Philip, off on a trip to Scotland, asks the Queen what she’d like him to bring back, then suggests “Nichola Sturgeon’s head on a platter”! Grin
You'd like that.
Jaffajam · 03/03/2021 20:16

Confusednortherner that's incredible Grin

@Jaffajam I know, what a stroke of luck!
