PurpleSweetPeas · 24/10/2020 21:24

Help! I'm not a huge fan of The Beatles (I know!) but my husband is and it's his 50th birthday next year. Trying to plan a mini break. Any recommendations would every gratefully received. Best things to do? Anything but necessarily I'd think of. Is there a better area to stay in? Anything!

Hard Days Night Hotel.

Beatles museum on the Albert Dock.

Get your photo taken with the Beatles statues further down near the Liver Building.

Cavern Club.

CurlsandCurves · 24/10/2020 21:32

And of course a massive fingers crossed that you be able to do all this by next year!

DustyLoafer · 24/10/2020 21:33

www.cavernclub.com/resident-bands/ccb/

If the Cavern Club reopens book to see the Cavern Club Beatles, they are on most weeks and it's a really good night. (Even for a non Beatles fan like myselfSmile)

There is a Beatles tour where you get taken on a bus to various iconic locations
The tour guide is an old guy who knew all the Beatles

JayAlfredPrufrock · 24/10/2020 21:36

Philharmonic Dining Rooms. Fabulous pub with Beatles history.

Travelledtheworld · 24/10/2020 21:36

All the docks, City Centre, Georgian quarter are safe and interesting to wander round. The Museum of Liverpool is excellent and free.
Ride the Mersey Ferry.
Some nice boutique hotels in the Geirgian quarter. Just look on Hotels.com for good deals. Edge Hill Travellodge is spotlessly clean if you want cheaper and you can leave you right car there and take the bus into town thus avoiding the expensive car parks.
Assuming we are out of Covid, go midweek and avoid Saturdays when Stag and Hen Parties and football drive hotel prices up to ridiculous levels.

Travelledtheworld · 24/10/2020 21:37

Oh yes Philharmonic rooms, LPO concert or George's Hall concerts. They are filming Batman there at the moment.

NC4Now · 24/10/2020 21:39

Stay at the Hard Day’s Night and make sure you have some Beatles themed cocktails in the bar.
Take the Magical Mystery Tour bus from the Albert Dock if it’s running. Have a look round the Beatles shop at the bottom of Mathew Street and check out the Cavern Club.
There’s an exhibition on the Albert Dock too.
And the statue in Mathew Street.
You’ll love it!

You're all amazing! Thank you. I'm not planning anything fixed until end of next year. We can but hope!

Yes ask them to show you the famous gents toilets!

Matthew street. Lots of good clubs and pubs including the Cavern. Although the Cavern isn't the original Cavern it's still worth a visit. Have your photo taken in front of the Hall of fame wall.

Not 100% Beatles related but you have to go on the ferry across the Mersey and just before/ after that have your selfie's/ photos taken with the Beatles statues in front of the liver buildings. There is a Beatles tour too. My husband was livid that when he was a bus driver , he collected these Americans from the cruise terminal to take them in the tour and the tour guide got loads of facts wrong. She even got the wrong house number on Smith down road. The Americans thankfully didn't notice .

We also have lots of absolutely amazing museums. For shopping there is Liverpool 1, Bold street , the high street and the old bombed out church is great too. Apparently there is a well reported time slip on Bold street , which seems very Love Craftian.

May be worth looking into the Williamson tunnels, great for a bit of history and they do tours and dinners down there.

The ultimate for a man that loves the Beatles is a trip to the Philarmonic dining rooms. The band spent a lot of time there as youngsters and your OH can pee in the same urinals Grin. People that come to visit us always really enjoy that for some reason. Plus it's a beautiful pub.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 24/10/2020 21:52

All of the museums down at the Docks (all free to get in)
Ferry across the Mersey
Cat cafe 😻
Titanic Hotel is gorgeous to stay

PurpleSweetPeas · 24/10/2020 21:53

Peeing in the same urinals has to be top of the list!! Grin

If you’re going to the philharmonic then take a walk down hope street to the school Paul McCartney attended, now LIPA.
Nice places to eat along here too.

ohflipit · 24/10/2020 21:55

Don't do the bus tour. You are crammed together, only get off about four times to queue up to get a photo then it's back on the bus. Much better is Mad Day Out taxi tours with Ian Doyle. From memory it's £60 for two hours for the two of you so not much more than the bus tour and a much more personal experience. His taxi is decorated just like John Lennon's Rolls Royce (it if you really want to splash out he has an actual Rolls Royce just like John's you can do the tour in!) I took my Beatles mad daughter and it was the highlight of her trip to Liverpool

Yes it's on bold street, you do need to book a slot as it's quite small and popular but it's full of amazing and v friendly cats!
Zampa · 24/10/2020 21:56

Albert Dock is great for lots of things. Amazing independent restaurants like Maray and Lerpwl and The Beatles Story exhibition. They've also got Tate Liverpool and the Maritime museum.

Bowerbird5 · 24/10/2020 22:00

Definitely go to the museum at Albert Dock about 1 1/2 -2 hrs. Really interesting. DD wanted to go because we were in Liverpool to see Bob Dylan and her partner was a fan of the Beatles so she wanted to go there before him😂

PurpleSweetPeas · 24/10/2020 22:02

Oh there is too many amazing things!
I was planning a Thursday to Saturday stay but don't think we'd for everything in!

Oh and again in the area- Ye cracke pub.

1990s · 24/10/2020 22:08

National Trust do tours of John and Paul’s childhood homes. Pretty good!

Ken1976 · 24/10/2020 22:16

I would also check out the two cathedrals either end of hope street . The Anglican one is huge and built of sandstone and can seen from many areas of Liverpool. The other is Roman Catholic and is far more modern , it's round and also fabulous .

PurpleSweetPeas · 24/10/2020 22:22

If I'm looking at hotels or air bnb then what areas should I be looking at, or avoiding??
