Seaside cottage - where?

If you had £300-£400k to spend on a seaside cottage, where would you look?

Requirements are 3+ bedrooms, 15 minutes walk of a sandy beach, within 2-3 hours travel time from London and railway station.

Southwold in Suffolk.

MrsMcTats · 19/08/2020 18:47

Apologies, Southwold doesn't have a train station.

heavycupcakeuser · 19/08/2020 18:55

Yes, Southwold is perfect apart from no station Sad.

Caswell or Langland Bay, South Wales.

leafeater · 19/08/2020 20:07

Sandy beach rules out quite a lot of the South Coast unless it's low tide and you like rock pools.

Try Littlehamton, Climping, Felpham or Selsey, I guess

chocolatviennois · 19/08/2020 20:18

This is not a very high budget for a week. Maybe try Felixtowe. It has a sandy beach but the sea is cold (compared to the south coast).

BikeRunSki · 19/08/2020 20:24

@chocolatviennois I read the OP as having £300K-£400K to buy a cottage

CherryPavlova · 19/08/2020 20:26

Isle of Wight. Train to Portsmouth and fastcat over to Ryde.
Broadstairs

HeronLanyon · 19/08/2020 20:26

I too read it as a purchase not hundreds of thousand for a weeks rental !!!!

chocolatviennois · 19/08/2020 20:30

@BikeRunSki Oops I'm sorry I read it too quickly and read £300 to £400 not noticing the K so was assuming it was a holiday!! My mistake. Felixtowe still worth considering for a purchase. Isle of Wight mentioned above might be better.

heavycupcakeuser · 19/08/2020 20:35

Yes, that's right Grin! We'd like to buy not rent (agree 400 very low for rent, looking at multiples of that for one week in September!). Sandy beach ideally for sandcastles for DC... But that's proving the sticking point. Lots of lovely places like Whitstable with shingle beaches and good rail links. DH doesn't really drive which is why we'd like the station... Hence posting here to see if lovely MN users have any brainwaves Star! I know it's quite a difficult ask...

What about somewhere like Boscombe/Christchurch/Highcliffe. Hinton Admiral station in the new forest is close to Highcliffe

MrsWooster · 19/08/2020 20:43

Are there any train stations at /near Rye, for Camber Sands and environs? We had a blissful holiday there when DS was tiny...

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 19/08/2020 20:45

Another one for Broadstairs, station right in town and you can get decent amount for your money. Lovely and sandy and some nice restaurants and things around there.

Elderflower14 · 19/08/2020 20:48

Westgate on Sea in Kent... Beautiful small town with a train station.... 3 BED DETACHED HERE
5 BED DETACHED £365,000 HERE Sandy beaches, small cinema, lots of independent shops and restaurants... One hour 40 minutes on the train...

TroysMammy · 19/08/2020 20:54

Struggling with links but do look if you wish...

lljkk · 19/08/2020 20:58

Kirby Cross, Essex.
Southend, too.

heavycupcakeuser · 19/08/2020 20:58

Broadstairs looks lovely! I had Christchurch on the list but was told it gets very busy in summer (but then probably so does everywhere with a nice beach Confused). Rye I think was too far to the beach from the station... Would like DH to be able to walk there with DC while I sleep in! Did also wonder about Sheringham or Cromer on north Norfolk coast but they felt a bit far.

There’s a train station in Rye but it’s not within walking distance of Camber.

BikeRunSki · 19/08/2020 21:00

Alnmouth, but about 30 mins too far from LKX for you.

uglyface · 19/08/2020 21:02

Camber Sands has dirty, cloudy water and gets absolutely packed in the summer. Beaches in Sussex are pretty crap to be honest. I say this as a proud Sussex resident!

Can you get down to Dorset? Lyme Regis maybe?

SmileTolerantly · 19/08/2020 21:03

Sheringham is lovely but it’s an hour on the world’s slowest train from Norwich (which is 2 hours from London)
