17 year old and 7 year old.
Need to be out every day to avoid wars between the two...
We love walking, the beach, activities, anything really.
Thanks

We’ll be there too all being well. We’ve been going for many years - hanging about on the many lovely beaches mainly. You could try hiring bikes on Anglesey and cycling through the forest to newborough beach. And we’ve always loved Zipworld treetop nets - no idea if it’s open.

crosser62 · 26/06/2020 21:51

Oh that’s fab thanks,
Last tome we were there we went on a fantastic walk and I can’t remember for the life of me what it was called. We parked on a car park then had to walk down a winding very structured pathway to a river walk. There was a river on the left side and a very high wooded rock face on the right, it was absolutely gorgeous. It’s driving me demented.
We like Abergele beach.
Can’t remember where else we could go.

Ok I want to know now as well Smile

Newborough on Anglesey - beautiful beach, nice sands, and an island that gets cut off at certain tide times with an old legend of Santes Dwynwen (welsh saint of love)
Anglesey sea zoo
Pili palas
Holyhead lighthouse
Rspb nature reserve Conwy
Walk round betws y coed
Caernarfon castle
Criccieth castle and beach
National Trust site Bangor which is Penrhyn Castle
Glyderau mountain walk
Greenwood park - amazing for kids
Copper mine near beddgelert
Walk round beddgelert and go see Gelerts Grave
Llanberis slate museum

To be honest North Wales is a big place and there’s lots to do.
Can you tell I live here? Haha!

Hastalavistaa · 26/06/2020 22:07

Aber falls in Llanfairfechan (bloody long walk)
Swallow falls near betws y coed
Bodnant gardens (was on our local news today)

Happenchance · 26/06/2020 22:10

I haven't been myself but would like to go to one of the Celtic Rainforests: celticrainforests.wales/

There are boat trips around Puffin Island, which are quite good (if they are running by then). Aber falls is nice but I definitely would not recommend the Welsh Mountain Zoo unless you like seeing animals in depressingly small cages.

hockeysticks89 · 26/06/2020 22:12

Aber falls, it's my favourite place anywhere.

Hastalavistaa · 26/06/2020 22:15

Agree with @Happenchance, as much as I’d like to support a local business, last time I went to Welsh Mountain zoo was as an 8 year old and even at that age I felt sorry for the camels looking miserable in their tiny enclosure. I’m a bit iffy about zoos but Chester zoo is better if you’re going to go. And Anglesey sea zoo has always looked like they look after their sea life BUT I don’t know anything about it so I might be talking out my arse.

HoppyHop · 26/06/2020 23:51

I wonder if it's The Dingle nature reserve in Llangefni on Anglesey? Sounds like a walk we've done a few times. Starts off at a river then turns into a boardwalk attached to the rock with the river below. Ends up at a reservoir, not sure from there as we usually turn back!
Enjoy your holiday, we are hoping to be in north wales too but not expecting much to be open.

crosser62 · 27/06/2020 00:23

It’s not dingle no BUT that sounds absolutely gorgeous so we will be heading there, thanks Happy.

I've got north Wales envy. I love it there.

The medieval house outside Criccieth is one of the spookiest places I have ever been to.

So many castles, so many beaches. Cadwalladers ice cream in Criccietth. Abersoch. The north Wales coastline. All of it. I wish I was going!

BrieAndChilli · 27/06/2020 00:42

Not sure what will he open. Wales still has the 5 mile stay local rule in place and after the beach fiascos around the country this week I’m not sure we will open up to tourists any time soon!! Mark Drakeford said if things like that keep happening he will slow down wales opening.

Institutkarite · 27/06/2020 00:53

Mark Dickford will keep Wales closed for as long as he can. He gives no fucks about the Welsh economy, all he seems to care about is wielding his power and not being the same as England.

Hastalavistaa · 27/06/2020 07:20

@crosser62 is it not a walk in Betws y Coed? There’s a walk that uses a man made wooden path that eventually leads along the river there. Struggling to think of where you’re describing and I’ve walked most of round here!

Hastalavistaa · 27/06/2020 07:21

@Institutkarite given the scenes in Bournemouth perhaps Drakeford is taking a sensible approach?

Institutkarite · 27/06/2020 10:30

It's not a sensible approach to keep people locked in a 5 mile radius, it's not sensible to restrict children's education. It's not sensible to remove swings and seats from playgrounds.
I know people who can drive 5 miles from their house and still be on their farm, in their fields but they're not allowed to go any further.
Dickford is a 5th fate Politician and Wales is suffering under his rules and restrictions.

Binterested · 27/06/2020 10:36

I’ve never seen a beach in N Wales get anywhere near to problematic levels of people even in peak season. Maybe it’s just where we go but the lovely thing is all the space and no people. Bournemouth is one smallish town yet it has a population a third the size of all of North Wales.

I can’t see anything similar happening on the Llyn for example.

crosser62 · 27/06/2020 12:15

No it’s not Betws, the name of it sounded very English and not very inviting, I’m going back through messages I’ve sent to friends sbout it, need to go back there, it was glorious and busy, there were loads of families there.
We found it in a “places to visit “ brochure so it’s a well known place.
Gaaahh driving me mad!
It will be in the satnav probably!

Even if nowhere is open and accessible, we are mire than happy to wander within 5 miles of Abergele where we are staying, everywhere, just everywhere is just lush.

I would wait and see what rules apply in Wales nearer the time.
At the moment noone should be going into Wales for holidays. Its closed.

Sunnydayshereatlast · 27/06/2020 12:28

Welsh mountain zoo has been amazing - after our honeymoon was 'trashed' 5 years ago we went camping in Wales and went. Had a fab time.

Canklesforankles · 27/06/2020 12:34

Although things are a bit stricter than England here, holidays won’t be banned when you are planning to visit

BumbleBeen · 27/06/2020 12:37

It's not a sensible approach to keep people locked in a 5 mile radius, it's not sensible to restrict children's education. It's not sensible to remove swings and seats from playgrounds.

None of those things apply in Wales. Mark Drakeford has said repeatedly that the 5 mile limit is a guideline, and people in rural places can apply their common sense and travel further if needed. The play grounds near me do not have the swings and seats removed - if that is true of something you have seen, I'd suggest it's local action, not government.

I know people who can drive 5 miles from their house and still be on their farm, in their fields but they're not allowed to go any further.

Well they're complete idiots then because they haven't read, listened to or understood the guidance which CLEARLY states that people in rural areas can travel further.

Dickford is a 5th fate Politician and Wales is suffering under his rules and restrictions. No, people are suffering under self imposed rules and restrictions. The real rules are designed to protect people from Coronavirus, which, as you know people are really suffering from.

BumbleBeen · 27/06/2020 12:40

Sorry for the slight derail there OP - Wales is planning to reopen in July, so Id keep an eye on the Welsh Government guidance and act accordingly. Plenty of wide open spaces around Abergele, loads of beaches.

The riverside path you mention - could it be Torrent Walk?:

Rhos on sea is lovely. We have a caravan in Abergele and i am now missing it all over again .
Anyway also love Rhuddlan Castle and Prestatyn.
Conwy
Llandudno ( obviously )
Llechwedd Slate Mine. You can zip wire and go down the mine . And nice coffee shop as well.
Oh I can't wait to stroll along the sea front.
Oh and Plas Newydd on Anglesey. Just lovely .
