Huh?!? Why would anyone go to Centreparcs if the pool/spa was shut?

Hmm what's the point?

They're opening next week but not pools/spas

Surely without a what, 90% discount people would be seriously complaining if they'd booked and there were no facilities

People who cant swim?

Frozenfrogs86 · 25/06/2020 22:20

I would go but only if A LOT cheaper. It is the main attraction.

BruceAndMarley · 25/06/2020 22:22

People who are going for a general break away and happy to go for walks and sit in the cabin . We were due to go in December with our baby who I’m currently pregnant with so she’d be around 16 weeks old, and we were contacted and told pools etc probably won’t be open then either . We have cancelled but only because we didn’t want to risk taking such a little one when it’s so uncertain but we have been over the years and don’t always go to the pool as we are happy with just a change of scenery !

BruceAndMarley · 25/06/2020 22:23

Plus I get tonsillitis EVERY time we go if I’ve been in the pool 😂 so I’m not fussed about it ! The spa is good though

FizzyPink · 25/06/2020 22:25

I’d definitely not be happy. Surely they’d have to give you the option to cancel or offer other activities for free as it’s one of the main “free things to do”

SuperFurryDoggy · 25/06/2020 22:28

I would still visit if it’s a lot cheaper, assuming that some of the outdoor activities can be safely operated.

Outdoor activities near us have started reopening (pony rides, mini golf, sedgway, etc) so presumably it can be done.

I agree the pool and spa are the main draw. However, our expectations have somewhat plummeted since we visited in January and I’m prepared to be very flexible for a safe, local and easy break! Grin

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 25/06/2020 22:28

I used to take one of my patients there. He couldn't swim and didnt want to use the spa. Actually other than going out for a meal, he just wanted to stay in the lodge and watch TV.

Evenstar · 25/06/2020 22:35

We are rebooking for next year, none of us wanted to go without the pool. I have managed to find a four night break in a caravan near the sea instead.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 25/06/2020 22:36

People with no imagination and don't mind wasting money on manufactured 'parkland'

From 4th July you can stay in hundreds of different campsites, Airbnb's, National trust cottages and hotels in ehhh ACTUAL forests, woodland and countryside for a fraction of the price.

Tsarboretum · 25/06/2020 22:39

I guess if it's a lot cheaper people might go for the change of scene? Plus you might be going as part of a big group you wouldn't get to see otherwise.

ClaraEccles · 25/06/2020 22:40

This is why I rearranged my August holiday.

I hear that a lot of companies say in their small print that facilities are subject to availability (or whatever) and so have wiggle room in situations like this and don’t have to refund (ie you pat for the accommodation, everything else is free so no refund due if withdrawn)

I didn’t fancy going to a hotel for its pool and water park, for those elements to be withdrawn, and still pay full price/get landed with cancellation charges.

justasking111 · 25/06/2020 22:41

Grand kids would not understand why they could not use the pool so family have decided not to book this year.

NotPennysBoat · 25/06/2020 22:42

They are offering a no-quibbles refund or change of dates if you don't want to go with the new restrictions. What they haven't offered is a discount if you still want to go without the facilities.
I have to say though, CP have been amazing at communicating and dealing with all of this, so much better than any other company I've had to deal with throughout all this!

sunlightflower · 25/06/2020 22:43

In "normal" times I wouldn't bother but in the current circumstances I'd go for a change of scene.

With little ones it's brilliant and although an Airbnb by a forest would be cheaper, it would be twice as much work..

@BruceAndMarley

Who told you that? Centerparcs themselves? We have a break booked in October and were told they are only making decisions up until the end of July
Susanna85 · 25/06/2020 22:46

What discount are they offering?

Centre parcs is expensive. Maybe for a 70%+ discount it would be worth it.

GhostTypeEevee · 25/06/2020 22:47

Ds is desperate to go back to Centre Parcs and it was going to be our treat after dh was away for 7 months on tour. We had promised to go as soon as it re-opened but even he has admitted it would be best to wait until the pool has reopened.

He even has dreams about being in CP he has been that desperate to go

c3pu · 25/06/2020 22:50

If the pool is shut, you can still do anal, which is the main reason for going to centre parcs I hear...

iwilltaketwoplease · 25/06/2020 22:51

Change of scenery I guess

BruceAndMarley · 25/06/2020 22:51

@ballsdeep yes when we rang up they said that they didn’t want to promise us that all will be back to normal and that most likely things will be like this until new year, so they said due to the fact we will be going with a baby and I have a low immune system, they wouldn’t want to promise anything so they have let us change the holiday to next year free of charge

rodentfeet · 25/06/2020 22:53

swimming is the best bit for holiday parks, it is the kids favourite thing to do so wouldnt bother without a pool... if just adults then they can find other things to do of course but these places charge the earth and it includes the pool

TheMurk · 25/06/2020 22:56

There are absolutely hundreds of activities at Centre Parcs of which the pool and spa are just two options.

MagentaRocks · 25/06/2020 23:15

In the email I got from them today they have not said the pool won’t be open, they have said it may be and they will be taking advice from the government.

As we were taking my MIL I am going to take the option to cancel. It isn’t the right time to be taking an elderly vulnerable person to a holiday park. We may go next year if things are sorted by then.

I probably would have wanted to cancel if the pool wasn’t available anyway as the child in our group would want to use a pool as much as possible.

ktp100 · 25/06/2020 23:19

We always go twice a year and am really missing it but we wouldn't enjoy it half as much without the pool.

It will still be there next year. If they have any sense they will start offering discounts for 2021 breaks so they know they have booking coming for next year but I doubt that will happen. Although their prices are very high it is pretty much always fully booked.

Floralnomad · 25/06/2020 23:21

We go the first week of December and basically use it as a touring base , last year we did go in the pool once ,we will still go .
