Totally isolated holiday cottages

I am 40 next year and thinking of becoming a hermit, at least for a few days.

What I'd love to do is take off with the dog and no one else to pass my birthday in total isolation. No friends, no family, no neighbours. Bliss. I realise that probably makes me a miserable, soon-to-be-older cow, but it's just what I fancy doing.

Anyone know of any cute little holiday cottages that would suitable for a late Jan/early Feb break with a dog? Somewhere I am very unlikely to bump into anyone at all, prefably with some good walking on my doorstep?

Ideally it needs to be within 3 hours or so drive from the midlands...

We stayed at a lovely cottage in the middle of nowhere. It's called paradise in a place called bacton herefordshire. It's in a hamlet and is totally isolated. I'd love to do that tooSmile

That looks really promising! Thanks!

I’ve always fancied this one but carrying bags across field and no WiFi vetoed by the Meanies in this house .

Gosh, I don't think it makes you in the least 'miserable'. Solitude can be absolutely necessary -- it certainly is to me, and I'm not in the least apologetic about it!

Sorry, I don't know anywhere properly isolated in the UK, but I frequently spend time on an uninhabited island off the coast of Ireland, and relish every hour. Enjoy your birthday, wherever you go!

missbattenburg · 22/08/2019 17:04

New plan: I want a whole island to myself Grin. That sounds so blooming lovely.

@Saucery I saw that one and was really tempted. Like you, I just have some questions about lugging bags across the field in the middle of winter Grin

It’s in the arseend of nowhere.
There was another house which owns the cottage but he didn’t see them.
We live close so visited.

Small toboggan attached to your dog?

Whathappenedtothelego · 22/08/2019 17:55

Have a look at the National Trust holiday cottages website.
Lots of them are quite remote, usually in interesting buildings, and plenty of them allow dogs.

@missbattenburg are you me? Same birthday, same time, same location and same idea? Spooky Grin
Following for ideas. Hope you have a lovely, peaceful birthday. Don't forget to pack wine and books.

Letsnotargue · 22/08/2019 18:08

Try a little cottage in the middle of nowhere with 22 acres of paddocks all to yourself for the dog to run in. We’ve been several times and it’s ace.

Letsnotargue · 22/08/2019 18:09

I failed on the clicky link - sorry.

hughwhatascorcher · 22/08/2019 18:16

The Landmark Trust used to do properties along the lines of your wish list. Sorry, I'm not in the UK now and dont know if they are still running. Might be worth a google.

missbattenburg · 22/08/2019 18:47

@WisestIsShe spooky!

Also wishing you a very quiet and peaceful 40th :)

Small tobogan?

I can just se eit now. Spending my 40th chasing a sled-towing Battendog across a frosty field while my pants and socks are flung about the place Grin

Torsa island is a bit far to travel but bloody heck I am jealous of anyone who gets to stay there.

Have a look at Menai Holiday cottages.

GOODCAT · 22/08/2019 18:51

Lundy island

missbattenburg · 22/08/2019 18:51

www.holidaywithyourdogs.co.uk = "We are now fully booked through to the end of 2020" which is a shame, because it looks great! There is such a demand for that kind of no-limit dog-private place to stay. There's one in Cambridge which is also fully booked.

OP posts:
missbattenburg · 22/08/2019 18:56

Lundy has nothing available during the week that allows dogs. Looks lovely, though. These are all some great suggestions that I never would have found myself. Thank you!

We went to trawllm holiday cottages in wales a couple of weeks ago. There are about 10 cottages but well spaced out and we didn’t see anyone else whilst there. No phone signal or wifi. Dog friendly cottages and lots of nice walks close by.
