Totally isolated holiday cottages

I am 40 next year and thinking of becoming a hermit, at least for a few days.

What I'd love to do is take off with the dog and no one else to pass my birthday in total isolation. No friends, no family, no neighbours. Bliss. I realise that probably makes me a miserable, soon-to-be-older cow, but it's just what I fancy doing.

Anyone know of any cute little holiday cottages that would suitable for a late Jan/early Feb break with a dog? Somewhere I am very unlikely to bump into anyone at all, prefably with some good walking on my doorstep?

Ideally it needs to be within 3 hours or so drive from the midlands...

I've always fancied the gamekeepers cottage near southwold in Sussex (bit far from the midlands though)..10 acres of woodland, cottage in the middle. Bring your own Mellors .........

Can't do links, Google gamekeepers cottage in woods southwold.

This is lovely, but might be too far away:

Tangy Mill

Hope the link works. This is my favourite place on the planet for getting away. Remote, peaceful, dog friendly, great walks nearby and nicely off grid. The host is wonderful too, so friendly but will leave you in peace. We just got back and apart from when we went in to the village we saw no other people while we were there despite it being the middle of the summer holidays.

www.cloudcuckoolodge.com/ is a little bit far for me, which is a shame because it looks so peaceful and 'lonely' - perfect.

It's not totally isolated, there's a couple of neighbours. But we stayed at barnacle cottage in aberfforest, Wales.

It's right next to lots of lovely walks , a waterfall and small quiet cove. The sound of the waves from the bedroom is so relaxing.

Do it!! You're bound to meet a ravishing lighthouse keeper or some such, my god, I'd love to do that 😃

Tangy Mill is too far - but also lovely.

The cottage in Fryup (great name!) looks promising, just looking at it.

The gamekeepers cottage is within striking distance so also worth a closer look, thanks.

trawllm holiday cottages looks lovely but not quite as isolated as I am obsessing over :)

Curl Moss cottage in the Scottish highlands is fabulous!

missbattenburg · 22/08/2019 19:31

The highlands are too far I think, but there are some absolutely stunning places up there.

We're (the dog and I) in Balmoral in November (brrrr) with family in November so I shall be getting my Scottish landscape fix Grin

It might be worth looking at the National Trust cottages - some of those are very remote/isolated.

missbattenburg · 23/08/2019 08:16

I don't think I am brave enough for Dodgson Wood but really wish I was... somehow the thought of pretending to live 400+ years ago does sound appealing. But maybe not in the middle of winter Grin

Dodgson wood would be amazing!

Sally’s Cottages in the Lakes has a ‘remote’ search filter
