Hello folks - we've got another competition for you!

Luxury Family Hotels are famed for providing families with stress-free and relaxing UK breaks which are fully focused on spending quality time together and taking some time out to relax.

With multiple locations across the south of the UK and prices starting from £329 for two-night stays including breakfast and dinner, it's the ideal time to book your break - and you can find out more here.

This year they're celebrating their 30th birthday, and to celebrate they're giving one lucky Mumsnetter the chance to win a two-night bed and breakfast stay at a Luxury Family Hotel of their choice.

To be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is let us know your top tips and tricks to ensure you and your family unwind properly on holiday. Whether that's making sure you turn off notifications for work emails, or getting out and exploring nature or simply remembering to pack the tablet charging cable, we want to hear it.

We will be picking a winner at random on Monday 22 July 2019 - good luck!

The prize is valid for redemption until 28 March 2020 (excluding school holidays and Bank Holiday weekends). The prize is valid for two adults and up to three children. The prize is subject to availability at time of booking.

We involve the kids in the planning. We make a giant poster and stick post-its on with all the things they want to do. Lots of these are free or just family things such as paddling in a river, going for a bike ride or having a film night. We take them off when we've done them.

Our son has SEN and taking a visual timetable really helps him to stay regulated when he's out of routine. Rum helps me and his dad. WiFi also really helpful!

kiwielite · 10/07/2019 02:14

Planning plenty of days out/activities/sightseeing so we’re doing something different. It’s all to easy to go away (especially if self-catering) and potter around doing the same things you’d be doing at home anyway

Greensheep242 · 10/07/2019 02:18

Waterproofs and swim clothes to splash about whatever the weather

ashvivienne · 10/07/2019 04:50

Give in quick and just buy the bloody pool float!

Pinkiepromisex · 10/07/2019 05:11

I try and get on Tripadvisor for ideas for days out and restaurants near by. I get my sometimes grumpy teen hooked up to the WiFi. I also check out all the reviews of the hotel for any tips. We love short breaks and try to get away a few times a year but within a reasonable distance so not all the time is spent in the car.

niceupthedanceagain · 10/07/2019 05:30

We encourage the kids to make a diary of their trip, to collect interesting nature items while they are out, then while they complete their scrapbooks we relax with a cup of tea!

omione · 10/07/2019 08:34

Dont micro manage and allow every member of the family a chance to chose. Make sure there is time to just chill, you are on holiday not on expedition.

RadishesAndLentils · 10/07/2019 08:48

Just me and my daughter. We always pack a ridiculous amount of stationery. Spend days at the beach or by the pool and evenings drawing, gluing, creating scrapbooks together.

SlightlyMisplacedSingleDad · 10/07/2019 09:50

Research so you know what you can do in the area....and then wing it! Over-planning kills spontaneity - leave yourself free to do what you feel like at the time, to stick with things you are loving, or move on from things you're not.

Pretendapony · 10/07/2019 10:01

Always research where you’re going before you get there. Then you can decide what activities to do when you feel like it. No rushing to get ready and sticking to an itinerary. Just taking your time and enjoying yourselves!

let us know your top tips and tricks to ensure you and your family unwind properly on holiday

Alter the Gro Clock so the dcs sleep in (added to later nights of course!)
Tin foil taped up to the bedroom windows on the dc rooms if no blackout blinds so they don't get woken by the early sunrises.
So basically what we can do to get good sleep Grin

Lots of water play in the garden (we always book somewhere with a garden as we don't have one).

Try and book somewhere without WiFi. The kids don't care either way, but it's nice for dh and I to reduce time on devices.

PepsiLola · 10/07/2019 10:29

I like you learn about the area before we leave, local beauty spots, things to do if the weather turns for the worst etc.

It's not a case that we will do everything I've checked out, but when it comes to it I am prepared with ideas.

wishingchair1 · 10/07/2019 10:32

Just being away from home and the feeling you need to be doing something at work or home.
Watching the kids and allowing them to play freely, going with the flow and eating ice cream whenever. No set routines.

worriedandannoyed · 10/07/2019 22:07

Don't make any plans, the best days as those where you jump in car and see where it takes you

Freshstart40 · 11/07/2019 12:25

No screens and not to pre plan your days too much. Leave a few days for spontaneous fun/relaxation.

Bearsinmotion · 11/07/2019 12:31

Always have back up activities - e.g. craft sets for rainy days. As has been said before, have enough spending money to just not worry. And only one cuddly toy per child, much less likely to get lost/forgotten!

DailyMailHater · 11/07/2019 12:49

We don’t wear watches and ditch the routine (easier with non toddlers!) so that we aren’t constantly saying oh it’s time for this or that....just quality time together driven by having to stick to a timetable....breakfast at 10, lunch at 3, tea at 8- fine who cares it’s a holiday 🤗

twitterbird · 11/07/2019 12:52

Always take card games and colouring to restaurants to ensure the wait for food/finishing time goes smoothly. When we have ordered we play a game - and then when adults have starters/finish the kids colour or draw.

theneverendinglaundry · 11/07/2019 12:57

No cooking, being outside as much as possible and tablets and phones out away!!

GloGirl · 11/07/2019 13:07

I spend 2 weeks before the holiday getting the house sorted and getting on top of the laundry so I can pack with ease rather than rapidly trying to dry the clothes the night before! I also like to leave the bedding fresh and house clean and hovered. I enjoy the holiday much more knowing it's a real break and I dont dread returning home.

ElsaMars · 11/07/2019 13:18

No cooking or boring day to day cleaning, apart from maybe loading the dishwasher. All time devoted to fun and relaxation. Do what we want not what other families might do. Happy parents, happy kids!!

GhostsToMonsoon · 11/07/2019 13:24

Making a checklist of everything we need before we go and ticking it off when packing.
Going somewhere with good wifi.
Knowing where things are (in this sense going back to the same place helps).
Audiobooks for long car journeys.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 11/07/2019 14:04

Lower your expectations 😂
Don't worry if it isn't 100% insta-perfect.

NightmareDaemon · 11/07/2019 20:49

For us it is about plenty of outdoor time, so kickabout on the pitch, swimming in the pool, making castles on the beach, riding our bikes, etc. We love adventures, picnics, and nature. That spells a good holiday for our family.
