Me,very well.
Was there about 2 hours ago.
Where are you staying?
Budget?
Interests?

CountessDracula · 23/07/2007 20:17

Morfa Nefyn beach is lovely, nice pub on beach at the end

CountessDracula · 23/07/2007 20:20

how small are kids?

The castle at Caernarfon is great

moondog · 23/07/2007 20:39

I used to live directly across the squar (Y Maes) from the castle CD.Oh,and spent most of me student years working in the tourist office opposite the entrance.

Where are you Puffling?
I'm not going to the effort without some feedback.

Depends where you are on the peninsula but always worth going to Porthmadog for the Ffestiniog steam railway. And to Borth y Gest, nice little seaside village with coves and fab ice cream. Portmeirion is lovely (architectural follly ish thing, an artificial village/home to rescued buildings, where the 60s TV series The Prisoner was filmed. Bizarre and lovely).

Whizzz · 23/07/2007 20:50

Caernarfon castle is great - but beware of lot of stairs to get around all areas if you have little ones

Llanberis is fab, Steam railway round the lake, Welsh slate museum, electric mountain and also soft play. Plus of course- the tallest mountain in Wlaes- Yr Wyddfa aka Snowdon

Coed Helen is the park.Over the footbridge form castle.

Llewsmum · 23/07/2007 21:48

Second psychobabble re the beaches particularly Porth Ysgo - 'tis lovely

Also whistling Sands

DrippingLizzie · 23/07/2007 21:55

Agree with all previous comments but beware of Abersoch...what once was a quaint little fishing/sailing village has been hijacked by the hoi-polloi (like Rock in Cornwall) and in high season you can't move nouveau riche families from Cheshire with their 4x4s, speedboats and promiscuous, pot-head teenagers. Abersoch was in the news last week for being the first place in the UK to be offering a mobile home for sale for £500k, so that says it all really. Shame, because the beaches there are lovely (especially the Warren beach).

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 22:02

Black Rock Sands is great....you can take the car onto the beach and picnic beside the car. none of the usual traipsing for miles carrying all your stuff....but of course that actually depends on getting some weather for the beach

Pwhelli is lovely, lots of nice wee shops.

Porthmadog is nice too, but busy. We spent many a happy hour fishing for crabs off the quay with scraps of bacon and a hand line.

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 22:05

For food, Y Sgawr in Tremadog was fab. Lovely local food all freshly cooked.

Llewsmum · 23/07/2007 22:08

God yes - Abersoch - used to be lovely when I was little - made the mistake of going a few years ago - is full of most disgusting types driving up and down in flash motors full of eejits - also idiotic use of jet-skis on swimming beaches nearby - shudder

PeachesMcLean · 23/07/2007 22:12

Can you still go in the hydro power mountain? Might be a bit sad but I do remember being truly impressed with the size of the main hall inside it.

Just so you know, there was a thread recently with someone complaining about Port Marrion as they called it... Wasn't a great recommendation to be fair - forewarned, forearmed and all that... but haven't been there myself.

The Slate Museum in Llanberis was more interesting than you'd expect (or am I showing my truly anoraky side here) And free. Then go into Llanberis itself for lunch at Pete's Eats. Proper climbers caff with good portions.

moondog · 24/07/2007 11:05

Yes you can Peaches.
Guffaw at 'Port Marrion'.

pooka · 24/07/2007 11:10

Ooh ooh ooh. We stayed at Morfa Nefyn in a house just by the Ty Coch pub. What an amazingly beautiful place. Felt like being in some scandinavian Fjord. But was completely deserted and out of school hols. The landlord at the Ty Coch said that it does get packed in the summer.

puffling · 24/07/2007 20:13

Thanks everyone, sorry I didn't reply before. I'll print this off and take it with me.
We are staying between Llangwnadl and Porth Colmon near the southern tip of the peninsula. We have a limited budget this year and the bubs are 4, 3 and 16 months.

If you like seafood, there is a bloke called Gareth Grifiths in Llangwnadl who will sell you the most wonderful local crabs for about £4 each. They are the best I have ever tasted. You will see his sign on the road as you pass. 01758 770397

A god daytrip (and costs nowt) is to go to Welsh NationalHeritage centre in Llithfaen. It is based in an old abandoned quarrying village in a valley by the sea and the drive down is amazing. You can walk down to the lovely deserted beach and have something to eat in the very nice cafe and learn a bit about Wales and the Welsh in the visitor centre.

All other ideas here are good too.

Lucycat · 24/07/2007 20:20

This is my absolute favourite webcam in the whole wide world.

The Ty Coch view out to sea towards Nefyn - many a happy afternoon have I spent sitting on the beach with a pint here while the kids played on the sand.

ahhh I do love the Llyn

moondog · 24/07/2007 20:22

Lucy, that beach hasn't a soul on it in the depths of winter and is still terrific.
