Hello. We are off to Windsor and London in July ( Wimbledon fortnight) and don’t want to pay too much as it’s not our main holiday. There are 5 of us. 4 adults and 1 child (but we are paying as 4th adult is mother in law). I had been looking at air bnb but can’t find anything I like at reasonable budget. I’ve come across a couple of places at very reasonable prices. Firstly premier inn in Staines upon Thames. Secondly Staybridge Suites Heathrow ( Bath road). Would be grateful for any views on which would be best place as a base (or whether neither are good). We will be out and about every day but might like a local place to eat the occasional night.

If anyone has any alternative suggestions please feel free to mention - but I am trying to keep budget low. Thanks

Will you have a car?

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 12:09

Hello. Yes. We are going by car but also noticed that Staines to Waterloo by train is reasonable time so thought that might be a bonus

Addlestone premier inn is good. You pay for parking but walk to train station so can leave car. Often cheaper than others and 50min to London.

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 12:22

Thanks. I will look at that too. Staines is very good price and premier inn reviews all good as it’s new hotel. I just don’t know anything about Staines as a place

We recently stayed in PI Slough - lovely hotel, new and modern. Lovely restaurant downstairs. About 8 mins from Windsor town centre x

SurreyMumOfOne · 19/05/2019 12:26

Staines is fine - nothing special but fine.

I wouldn't stay at the Heathrow option. Bath Road is a long drag of soulless airport hotel after soulless airport hotel. I've stayed at a few for conferences and you'll be stuck having to eat at the overpriced hotel restaurants or take the car.

Adddlestone is also a good shout from pp, but as with Staines nothing particularly 'lovey' on the doorstep but functional, like Staines.

SurreyMumOfOne · 19/05/2019 12:28

To add, Staines would give you more evening eating options than Addlestone IMHO, there's a retail park in the town centre with a cinema and many chain restaurants

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 12:36

Thanks. I should have said - mother in law is meeting a friend on the Saturday and going to Hampton court so that’s thrown in the mix as well.

There's a brand new premier in right next to staines station.

I've just booked 6 nights there, cost me £240.

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 13:22

Yes. The price is good😆

Runnymede on the Thames hotel

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 13:44

Thanks.just looked at Runnymede hotel but would work out at £1200 for 3 nights. Way out of our budget

MoveOnTheCards · 19/05/2019 13:45

Runnymede will be a pain for travel into London, although just minutes in the car from Staines and Windsor.

How about Kingston? Drive to Windsor but very handy for Hampton and London. Plenty of choice for food too.

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 13:46

I’m now wondering whether Staines or slough would be better. I will have to work out travel times to all the places we are going to. Not sure yet what we will do about getting mother in law to Hampton court. She is perfectly fine on a train and taxi but wouldn’t want her having to negotiate too many changes. I need a holiday just from planning this

OP posts:
MoveOnTheCards · 19/05/2019 13:47

Or stay in Wimbledon (new PI), Windsor is a train ride from Putney (bus ride from outside the PI), Hampton is a short train ride from Wimbledon and Waterloo is 15mins.

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 13:49

I hadn’t even looked at Wimbledon as assumed would be booked up as Wimbledon fortnight.
I will look mow

The premier inn is the ‘wrong side’ for the tennis so might be good prices. Failing that there’s another pi and a holiday inn express at Colliers Wood, just down the road. Also try air bnb as loads of people list their homes there at that time.

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 13:51

Eek - there is availability but It would be £1000 for 3 nights. I’m not paying that for a premier innGrin

JustLooking2019 · 19/05/2019 13:52

If your MIL is happy with it there’s a bus that runs from Staines to Kingston via Hampton Court. Number 216

MoveOnTheCards · 19/05/2019 13:52

Ouch! Try Kingston. It’s a good location for what you need.

CanIretireearly · 19/05/2019 13:58

Thanks. Kingston premier Innis booked up. I’ve just come across Kew which is a bit more than Staines. I wonder if that might be better? I need to get my routeplan er up

The restaurants in Staines are by the road bridge so not that near the rail station. Presumably Woking Travelodge more expensive?

Restaurants are just the other side of the train station.

stucknoue · 19/05/2019 14:04

We stayed near Windsor before a flight, was the de vere, was undergoing some refurbishment on the pool but otherwise decent for the price (only paid £60 including breakfast!) join the rewards club for free breakfast

JustLooking2019 · 19/05/2019 14:07

“The restaurants in Staines are by the road bridge so not that near the rail station“

It’s a 10 minute walk from the station to the far end of the high street where you have a lot of restaurants. Even less time if walking from the Premier Inn

SurreyMumOfOne · 19/05/2019 14:25

OP I thought you needed to be in/near Windsor?
