Blackpool

Joy of joys DD has a 4 day dance comp in Blackpool in August. Having stayed there years ago vowing never to return, am looking for ideas on places to stay away from the city but within reasonable driving distance.

This will be slap bang in middle of our family holiday so maybe cottage somewhere?

Possibly not what you’re looking for but we stayed in a caravan in fleetwood recently. It was a haven site but the caravan itself was really nice, modern, clean and roomy.
You can get a team into Blackpool or drive it on about 20/30 mins.

Thanks Eminy..
Worst fear is being surrounded by stag/hen do's - would like somewhere not too busy and picturesque. Also open to nice family hotel recommendations

Poulton is lovely, really close to Blackpool but nice restaurants and less of the hen party vibe? Can’t recommend a hotel but I’m sure there’s a few.

Ribby Hall is worth looking at. Close enough to Blackpool, but also far enough away iyswim.

Iwantmychairback · 06/05/2019 21:06

I was going to suggest Ribby Hall too

gingertesco · 06/05/2019 21:17

What about the village hotel, it's cheap too!

anywhichwayyoucan · 06/05/2019 21:20

For what you are looking for I would also suggest ribby hall. It's 15 mins from Blackpool on the main A road.

howwudufeel · 06/05/2019 21:21

Lytham St. Annes is next to Blackpool but absolutely lovely.

newcat12345 · 06/05/2019 21:23

Sadly it appears Ribby Hall is adults only Sad

anywhichwayyoucan · 06/05/2019 21:26

Ribby hall definitely isn't adults only, the spa hotel is but the lodges etc aren't Smile

EskeewdBeef · 06/05/2019 21:37

Yes, it's definitely family friendly.

newcat12345 · 06/05/2019 21:40

Ah yes, found the lodges!

Another vote for Lytham St Anne's, we stayed the other weekend with DS and got an apartment for a really good price, it's much nicer than Blackpool and only a few minutes drive straight into Blackpool.

newcat12345 · 07/05/2019 12:18

Lauren how did you find the apartment?

OP posts:
Langrish · 07/05/2019 12:24

Lytham or St. Annes. St. Annes has the best beach and more visitor “attractions”, Lytham is more upmarket, ergo pricier.
Don’t know if there’s much in the way of holiday let’s there, but Wrea Green is prettier than both, but slightly more inland.

Langrish · 07/05/2019 12:26

NewCat

St Annes Beach Huts and Holiday Apartments look like they have some nice places.

Lauren83 · 07/05/2019 14:35

It was just on one of the comparison sites I can't remember which DP booked it, we just filtered to what we needed (Parking, kitchen, separate bedroom, travel cot etc) the one we used was Howarth House aparthotel, they have the hotels on the same street but apartments further down, it was great and right across from a big Aldi so was really convenient for DS

OldUnit · 07/05/2019 14:35

Ribby Hall. Thank me later.

Lauren83 · 07/05/2019 14:36

Just checked and it was booking.com

Funf · 09/05/2019 17:44

Whilst in the area its worth looking at the Lakes, and Liverpool, plenty to see and do

Furryandpurry · 09/05/2019 17:49

Travel lodge in Lytham St Anne's is quite nice for a few days. The main down side is parking though as it's just on street really.

NC4Now · 09/05/2019 17:52

Another vote for Ribby Hall. If you get any time to yourself, I’d recommend the spa too. Best I’ve been to.

Furryandpurry · 09/05/2019 17:52

The Big Blue hotel in Blackpool was fine too. It had a separate kids bit in the room with tv and games console.

REDCARBLUE · 10/05/2019 10:24

Big blue hotel. Great! No trashy stags and hens. Wetherspoons few mins walk up the road, tram stop opposite.

I hated blackpool but this hotel softened the break for me.
