Alcohol on trains?!

Can someone tell me why virgin trains in the uk allow people to drink cans of beer & alcohol stinking the carriage out? Am I the only person who finds this disgusting & unnecessary

Whenever I go up north to see family I book Virgin first class. The booze is included. Last time I went was Christmas - they were throwing the stuff at us. "G&T please." "Just the one? Or should I leave two? We're not coming round again for another hour."

ScreamingValenta · 18/08/2018 10:40

As long as it's not the driver.

Quite. The Eltham Well Hall rail crash of 1972 was caused by the driver having been drinking all day (it happened in the evening).

Maybe because they sell alcohol on trains.

Don't go in first class OP they actually give alcohol away

I haven’t enjoyed this thread at all, it’s left me feeling quite irritated.
I would therefore like the OP and others like her banned from the internet 🙄

I quite often have a can of cider on the train if I’m on the way to a night out

Greggers2017 · 18/08/2018 11:10

@frankiesamson I'd love you to tell me this alcoholic beverage you have discovered that stinks out a whole carriage.
In all my years of working in substance misuse I have never smelt one that smells a room or a space out. I have however smelt stale booze on people which can be quite unpleasant.
Me and the girls often share wine or prosecco on the way to the races or me and my partner have a cider or two on the way to a music concert. Which is exactly what I'm planning on the way to seeing Liam Gallagher this evening.
We never bother anyone.
I'm also worried about the guy upthread who stumbled of a train after drinking only 4 cans. Can't be a very regular thing for him or he'd have a bigger tolerance than that.

I have enjoyed this thread. Finally, I feel edgy and a bit dangerous. Even if it is only for drinking miniature bottles of wine from Marks and Spencer’s on trains. A 46 year old accountant must take whatever crime-adjacent glamour she can get.

SoyDora it's fairly well known when someone accuses someone else of being "angry" or worked up, it's themselves projecting their own emotion onto others

OP posts:
SoyDora · 19/08/2018 13:23

Is it? I’d love to see the evidence for that. I’m sat mumsnetting with a coffee while my children are crafting nicely next to me, I’m far from angry Smile

SoyDora · 19/08/2018 13:28

Can you provide a link to those studies?

frankiesamson · 19/08/2018 13:33

SoyDora, that's funny, I'm sitting next to mine peacefully asleep. Hopefully your children will grow up knowing not to judge others

“Hopefully your children will grow up knowing not to judge others.”

Unless they’re drinking on a train, eh

EduCated · 19/08/2018 13:48

What a bizarre turn this thread has taken Grin

PamsterWheel · 19/08/2018 13:57

Stinky booze, smelly hot food, sweaty feet/armpits, bad aftershave, rotting teeth, shitty nappies, piss dribbles, freshly peeled orange, dog ... ban 'em all!

Down with smells!
