What would you expect in a luxury holiday cottage in Cornwall?

We are building an environmentally friendly holiday cottage on the north coast of Cornwall and deciding what equipment should go in there, and wondered what you would expect to see if you were visiting. It will have 4 double bedrooms (with zip and link beds, so that they can be doubles or singles), 3 bathrooms, a large kitchen/diner, a large living room, utility room, patio, roof terrace and small garden. We will provide a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, double oven, 5 ring hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, smart TV, soundbar, American style fridge freezer, wine fridge, DVD player, PS4, wireless speakers, barbecue, garden games, outside shower, books, games, DVDs.

Is there anything which you would expect? We have decided not to have a hot tub, for environmental reasons! Would you expect there to be two dishwashers? Would you want a Nespresso machine? Or would a cafetière suffice? Would you expect the fridge to dispense cold water and ice. Would you want the PS4 in the living room or a separate room (ie one of the bedrooms)? Would you expect a PS4, or do you think this is not necessary on holiday?

You and your guests will reap the benefits of an outdoor tap/hose and somewhere to hang wetsuits safely. You don't want people
Using the bathrooms to clean then and hang them.
BBQ
Reclining garden furniture as well as table and chairs.
Or maybe fatboy beanbags

Sounds brilliant.

Can I add USB charging points and local babysitter recommendations to the list?

Am roffling at the idea of an enviornmentally friendly luxury holiday retreat. With all of the consumable goods you can imagine being on tap for your high-spending, high-earning probably not at all environmentally friendly guests. They won't be wanting to "make do and mend" with crockery, cutlery, furnishings, bedding will they? You will be adding constantly to the landfill pile just from new pillows and towels every season.

Some beach toys too.... but please, not cheap body boards. They break up easily and add to the plastic crap in our sea.

I think you should have a range of coffee making machines as people very particular about what they use. Get a stove top (the best imo), a cafeteria and a nespresso.

And make sure hob and cooker are easy to operate. Nothing worse than having to get out the manual for an induction hobb or Google aga tips.

Important for me and where I am happy to pay a bit extra are:

good quality furniture, nice layout, good bedding
enough crockery/cutlery/pots/cups so I can at least get 3 meals without running the dishwasher
an oven, if you provide a muffin tray and 20cm tin and scale I would love you
oven gloves
enough tea towels, washing up equipment to last 2 weeks
enough towels to last 2 weeks
beach towels
spare bedding in case of accidents so I don't have to wash and dry the same day
maybe some books/dvds/boardgames
decent TV/stereo system
WIFI
BBQ and good outdoor seating area
space with outdoor water supply to clean beach items
little utility room instead of cramming washing machine/dryer in the kitchen, esp. important if you have open plan
good curtains/blackout in ALL bedrooms
decent material of the local area and up to date, not 5 years olds
Picnic blanket and enough tupperware style boxes
DECENT knives

If you cater for families with young children I would have these available but not on permanent display:
Highchair and booster seat
cot (and don't ask me to bring my own bedding)
plastic cutlerly/dishes
Potty
small amount of toys
stair gates
bucket and spade and other beach toys

Nice stuff but for me not essential:
games console
filled fridge or welcome food. I am quite fussy so I may not necessarily appreciate your offerings.
complicated coffee machine
expensive toileteries. Again, I am fussy. I would expect soap in the bathrooms/kitchen though.

Definitely outdoor shower - this will help avoid half the beach ending up in your house.

Also, an easy to use speaker(s) whetebyou can plug in or bkuetooth a phone/ tablet to access guests own Spotify/ similar.

Blankiefan · 28/06/2018 20:07

Oh, and nightlights at foot level triggered by movement so people can find loos at night (esp.little kids)

Etymology23 · 29/06/2018 07:49

I also want to be able to leave windows on the latch but hate compulsory limiters. Not everyone has kids in every room and as an adult I want to decide how much I have my window open!!

The only other things I would add would be a big sink in the utility room and a pre-arrival list of everything being provided so I don’t have to guess.

Beach towels: I don’t expect these to be provided, but I’d be happy if they were. I would consider whether the expense was worth it to avoid unscrupulous guests taking your lovely indoor towels to the beach.

Wellies in a variety of sizes - there's always a teenager who has 'forgotten' appropriate footwear for doing anything...
