What would you expect in a luxury holiday cottage in Cornwall?

We are building an environmentally friendly holiday cottage on the north coast of Cornwall and deciding what equipment should go in there, and wondered what you would expect to see if you were visiting. It will have 4 double bedrooms (with zip and link beds, so that they can be doubles or singles), 3 bathrooms, a large kitchen/diner, a large living room, utility room, patio, roof terrace and small garden. We will provide a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, double oven, 5 ring hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, smart TV, soundbar, American style fridge freezer, wine fridge, DVD player, PS4, wireless speakers, barbecue, garden games, outside shower, books, games, DVDs.

Is there anything which you would expect? We have decided not to have a hot tub, for environmental reasons! Would you expect there to be two dishwashers? Would you want a Nespresso machine? Or would a cafetière suffice? Would you expect the fridge to dispense cold water and ice. Would you want the PS4 in the living room or a separate room (ie one of the bedrooms)? Would you expect a PS4, or do you think this is not necessary on holiday?

No ps4, we have too much of that at home.
Ice dispenser not necessary but would be nice. One dishwasher is fine, just supply plenty of crockery.

A bbq would be good if there's room.

Annebronte · 03/06/2018 12:34

One dishwasher is fine. I’d prefer no PS4 on holiday - I see holidays as a break from them! A cafetière would do, though I prefer a stove top espresso pot.

RatOnnaStick · 03/06/2018 12:35

If we're talking luxury then we look for top quality fittings in the bathroom including a decent walk-in shower. High quality bed linen and comfortable non-chintzy furniture.

After that the things that make it luxury for me are a welcome pack including milk, butter, fresh bread, ground coffee for the cafetiere, kitchen essentials for the length of stay etc. I wouldn't expect to have to bring teabags or washing stuff or extra towels.

Luxury to me means the same or higher standard than at home.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 03/06/2018 12:36

Definitely a BBQ
Outdoor pizza oven?
Somewhere useful to hang out wetsuits.

Not a Nespresso, very environmentally unfriendly.

RatOnnaStick · 03/06/2018 12:36

Coffee pod machines aren't eco-friendly and a faff to clean. Cafetiere much simpler.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 03/06/2018 12:42

No PS4!

Decent garden furniture (for relaxing and for eating outdoors)
Things like dishwasher and washing machine liquid/pods/powder to be provided.
A selection of things in the kitchen like some basic herbs, seasoning, oils to make cooking easier. (there's nothing worse than going somewhere and finding there's not even salt and pepper and ypu have to go and buy everything from scratch)
Some basic beach things if you're near to beach (windbreak, buckets and spades, beach mats)

BrownTurkey · 03/06/2018 12:44

Beware things that will break frequently or suffer from lack of maintenance or cleaning, like coffee machines or ice dispensers.

I would want

King or superking bed (your link ones fine though, they would be wide enough).
Nice white linen and fluffy duvets
Big comfy sofas
Bbq
Tv
Maybe a swing seat or something outside.

I think the PS4 might split people - for high end people often want to get away from it all.

GinisLife · 03/06/2018 12:44

So long as there was a corkscrew I'd not care !! Haha. Ice & water dispenser in the fridge would be good

MinaPaws · 03/06/2018 12:49

Cafetiere definitely - easiest way to make coffee.
A good welcome hamper. People drive for hours to get to Cornwall, so not having to shop for supper and breakfast is a massive plus. And a bottle of wine always makes a good impression.

Decent toiletries, fluffy towels and separate beach towels. Some Cornish places also provide those cheap body boards and buckets and spades,w hich is a nice touch.

If you allow pets, a blanket, basket, bowls, dog towel and biscuits would be good.

Ohcomeonn · 03/06/2018 12:52

Add a coffee grinder if providing a cafetiere.

Plenty of cutlery and utensils like a pizza garlic, garlic crusher, ice cream scoop.

Pumpkin1975 · 03/06/2018 12:52

In some ways I would actually be glad of a games console, we took our Wii to France on a big family holiday last year and on rainy evenings it was actually fun for all the cousins to have that to do. It would certainly make my teen boys happier about the prospect of a family holiday! Maybe it could be hidden in a cupboard so parents could make that decision.
For me, what I would want in a luxury holiday is everything sparkling clean and super comfy beds!

Iamblossom · 03/06/2018 12:52

Deffo an ice dispenser.

Table tennis table? Brilliant on our last holiday. In a covered area maybe so can play all weathers?

Basket ball hoop

Very good quality towels and naice pillows.

Good selection of dvds

Big luxurious welcome hamper

TeaBelle · 03/06/2018 12:54

You could have a ps4 available on request so would suit everyone

ChangedAgain1 · 03/06/2018 12:58

Agree with the pp about a PS4 in a cupboard! Good to have but I wouldn’t want the kids to know about it - and could bring it out on my terms.

A selection of board games and dvds.

chipsandpeas · 03/06/2018 13:01

for me wifi and a ice dispenser would be a must
surely it depends on who your target market is as well as how far away from amenities the place is

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/06/2018 13:03

A lovely cream tea set out on arrival and a good bottle of wine in the fridge!
I second the table tennis suggestion.
From bitter experience a couple of chunky torches for power cuts.
Decent cutlery.
A couple of airers.

Glitterbaby17 · 03/06/2018 13:06

For families with younger children or babies ability to supply a cot, high chair, stair gates if the cottage has stairs make a big difference as means you don’t need to bring as much stuff. And maybe a baby monitor you know stretches the distance from bedrooms to lounge if it’s a big cottage

mmmgoats · 03/06/2018 13:07

agree with ps4 on request.
We usually like a hot tub when we go to luxury places as it's something different from home but appreciate they must be a bugger to run and clean - although recently we've started booking with only wood burning hot tubs - they're great.

Agree with nice towels and toiletries, tasteful and quality crisp bedding (lovely egyptian cotton).
Went to one recently that had a bookcase with a lovely selection of new books and a hamper of arrival goodies, all lovely quality bits and pieces.

What a lovely project - I hope it does well for you :)

NC4Now · 03/06/2018 13:07

Decent WiFi and a telly which can access Netflix and the likes for rainy days or evenings.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 03/06/2018 13:07

That sounds lovely 😊

I think the PS4 is unnecessary (and possibly even undesirable for many).

Baring in mind you have said Luxury and I’m assuming the price reflects this...

I’d ‘expect’ (and I’m guessing you already have this in hand) the basics in the way of kitchen ‘stuff’ - chopping boards, decent quality sharp knives, grater, serving dishes, serving spoons, tongs, spatula etc.

Salt in a grinder, pepper in a grinder, olive oil...
Tin foil, glad wrap, plastic bags etc.

Bottle opener & fizz topper.

Plenty of dishcloths, tea towels, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid bin bags etc

Laundry tabs/liquid/powder.

Plenty of toilet paper, bleach (or eco cleaner)

Spare linen in case of accidents, illness etc. Not loads but 1-2 sets.

Spare pillows, extra blankets.

Plenty of towels.

I’m happy to pay not to have to think about those things (and your machines will run better if the same products are used regularly).

Single dishwasher is fine. Two is handy, but not necessary.

A Nespresso machine would be PERFECT, I hate having to take mine. A cafetière wouldn’t suffice, no. (But I’d take my own if you didn’t stipulate there was one).

I don’t like water or ice out of the fridge like that (I think it tastes weird), so I wouldn’t care either way.

Obviously lovely luxurious feeling textiles, nice wine glasses (no need to be expensive, M&S do nice basics) and nice ‘things’.

Very importantly basic user instructions for everything.

...anything fresh or local as a treat on arrival is always appreciate, but not expected.

Rents · 03/06/2018 13:08

Eco-friendly, naice cleaning products. Nothing heavy handed as I wouldn't expect to do any 'real' cleaning. Lovely smelling counter top sprays etc (like Method but not Method as I think they have recently been taken over by a big corp)

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/06/2018 13:09

Filter coffee machine would be fine, or a large cafetiere. A bath would be an excellent advantage as well as a shower if there's room, and somewhere to hang washing to dry (washing line and pegs). After having the unfortunate experience of a washer/dryer on holiday this year, would prefer a separate washer and dryer. Dishwasher not essential for us, we don't have one at home and only used the one in our apartment on holiday once because it was a novelty.

feesh · 03/06/2018 13:09

The bed is everything. Super king minimum (ِYour zip and link plan will achieve this) with a super mattress and a gorgeous padded headboard which you can be very comfortable leaning against.

A games room. A games console would be great for older children. Table tennis is a genius idea for all ages, some quality board games, tennis racquets etc.
I would also like an option for a housekeeper to tidy, clean and cook some meals.
