DH and I are planning to "do" Wales (as the Americans say)

I have visited a bit of North Wales but would love to explore the whole country more

We don't need accommodation as we will be in our Motorhome and will be using a mixture of Britstops and Campsites

We have a dog so dog friendly beaches would be great

So any beautiful places to see and also places to avoid

Thank you

Lots of great South Wales suggestions here! Definitely Conwy, Llandudno, Portmeirion in the north. Anglesey is beautiful. Newborough beach and Llanddwyn are spectacular. Betws y Coed and Snowdonia.

Agree with PP about Gower, Tenby and Aberystwyth!

Time40 · 03/05/2018 21:21

Basically the whole of Pembrokeshire

Yes. The whole of Pembrokeshire for me, too. I keep thinking about moving there.

WindyBee · 04/05/2018 07:20

Snowdonia! Im biased as i live here but its bloody stunning and i love the wilderness and going off for a mountain walk alone, seeing no one.

Snowdon, Glyderau, Carneddau, loads of walks if that’s what you want to do.

The Gower
The Neath waterfalls - Ystradfelte
Careg Cennen Castle in Trap near Llandeilo
Tenby

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 04/05/2018 07:32

Re my earlier suggestion - I think Dyfi Osprey Project has restrictions on dog access as they are located within a nature reserve

maamalady · 04/05/2018 07:43

Definitely the whole of Pembrokeshire! Including St David's, Solva, and get the boat out to Skomer (although you may not be able to take the dog).

Broadhaven beach in Pembrokeshire is NationalTrust and you can camp on the cliff at Trefalen Farm which is basically a field with a tap, Absolutely beautiful and a nice walk to the lily ponds and Barafundel bay along the coastal path.

My dad worked in Big Pit, llandudno is my favourite place on earth

NotARegularPenguin · 04/05/2018 07:53

I used to live just outside Tenby.

I would say.

3 cliffs/gower peninsular
Tenby
Manorbier
Bosherston Lily Ponds
Barafundle
St Davids
Dolphin Watching boat trip in cardigan bay
Aberwystwth

Further North.

Dolgellau might make a nice stop on the way up - there's a lovely walk, the Mawdachh trail which goes towards Barmouth.

Llanberis is nice, I thought the visit to the Electric Mountain power station was very worth doing. You could go to Deiniolin and explore the old slate quarries.

I love Beddgelert. Nice forest walks, steam railway, riverside walk, quirky shops, great icecream.
Betswy Coed is also very nice and there's waterfalls there.

Anglesey is worth a visit - I stayed near Benllech once which had some lovely cliff top walks.

UrsulaPandress · 04/05/2018 08:08

Hope you have a fabulous time.

PiggeryPorcombe · 04/05/2018 11:18

Oh yes def do Electric Mountain if you’re in the area.

ASilhouetteAndNothingMore · 04/05/2018 11:28

Ceredigion for the dolphins, tent, saundersfoot, the Gower, Ogmore by sea (ridiculous parking charges) southerndown, nash point, Cowbridge is great for lunch and shopping. Cobbles tea room in Ogmore is dog friendly.
Cardiff bay and penalty too.
Can you tell where I live? Grin

SisterFrancisBeaverhausen · 04/05/2018 11:59

If you need a campsite in mid Wales I can highly recommend Fforestfields - the amenities are first class and they run pizza nights with freshly made pizza, there is also a small lake onsite for swimming or water sports. Whilst you are in the area you could head to the Red Kite feeding station near Rhayader (there is also one further west near Llandovery) or to the Elan valley to see the dams Smile

HRTpatch · 04/05/2018 12:04

Aberdyfi
And there is a gin distillery nearby at Corris

flissfloss65 · 04/05/2018 12:04

Gower Penninsula has gorgeous beaches. Walk across the causeway from Rhossili to the Worm’s Head.

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2018 16:44

I think Penalty might mean Penarth, rather than Penalty.

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2018 17:00

I meant Silouhette not Penalty.
