Seeking safe beach, quaint villages, bit of history

I'd be grateful for suggestions for August 2018 please.

We've stayed at a beautiful site near the Pembrokeshire coastal path for many years so it's time for a change.

The youngest is 11 so they still enjoy days on the beach bodyboarding and digging in the sand. DH has a Kayak and the children have started to paddle out a bit so it needs to safe waters.

I'd like somewhere that might be close to places of historic interest and also with villages to explore.
DH says Cornwall too busy in August.

Dorset, Studland for sandy beaches, Lulworth cove for paddling about in the kayak, Corfe Castle, Tyneham Village,, Kimmeridge and The Etches Museum, Bivington Tank Museum, (excellent on a rainy day)

Have you considered the Gower? Oxwich bay is huge, and for a quieter beach try three cliffs bay?

The Seahouses/Bamburgh coast area. You can visit Holy Island and Alnwich Castle/Gardens etc and the beaches are amazing!

We love Croyde in North Devon.

Isle of Wight with lovely beaches (hire a hut daily in Ventnor) lots of places to visit and good crabbing. Osborne house, Carisbrook Castle, the Old Battery all good days out. Plenty of choices of accommodation. Ferry makes it more fun too.

South hams has some of loveliest beaches in the country. Soar Mill Cove hotel has good self catering units with stunning views and use of hotel pool and games room. Salcombe and Dartmouth are lovely to Potter around. Boat trips up the Dart, Sea Tractor from South Sands.

North Northumberland coast, around the alnwick area, but be prepared for cold seas! Wetsuits needed!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I saw Gower mentioned on another thread, Croyde Bay and Salcombe look lovely also.

I've fancied going to Northumberland and we already have the wetsuits !

I've never considered the Isle of Wight but my son visited with his Scout unit this year.

Another vote for Northumberland! Specifically Bamburgh, where you have a choice of 4 castles (including Alnwick which is where some parts of Harry Potter was filmed and it has a terrific tree house and water garden!) There's also the Grace Darling museum and I highly recommend making a trip across to the Farne islands if you're after villages to explore. Keeps your eyes peeled for seals and puffins

North coast of Cornwall is very busy in August but the SE coast around Looe isn't - far from it. we have spent many holidays in this area and still have days out when we barely see anyone. its also near to Plymouth and devon. we stay HERE as it has its own swimming pool and there are lots of cycle trails and canoeing things/ water type activities nearby.

East Neuk of Fife, that's my suggestion as somewhere you have undoubtedly never considered!

North Norfolk is lovely, especially Wells Next The Sea. Lovely little harbour town with plenty to do in the local area and a gorgeous beach that goes on for miles.
There is a creek that runs from the harbour to the beach and I have seen people kyaking many times.

Another vote for Studland Bay, Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge Bay etc. Amazing, beautiful place and plenty to explore.

Either Northumberland or Western Lake District - st bees or nr Haverigg.

Thanks for the additional suggestions, to be honest DH is happy to stick with our usual destination so I'll have to try and talk him round to somewhere different. I don't think he would want to drive up to Fife but I would love to visit Scotland again. I've been to Ayrshire and it was lovely.

North Wales. Snowdonia / anglesey (lots of Great Lakes for kayaking in snowdonia)

Another vote for Northumberland here. It's one of my favourite places in the UK. So diverse, so much to see and do.

Isles of Scilly if you've got the budget.

Llantwit major, anything south of Cardiff but near enough to enjoy Cardiff museums and attractions.
You might want to give barry a miss though although it does have a sandy beach
