Seeking safe beach, quaint villages, bit of history

I'd be grateful for suggestions for August 2018 please.

We've stayed at a beautiful site near the Pembrokeshire coastal path for many years so it's time for a change.

The youngest is 11 so they still enjoy days on the beach bodyboarding and digging in the sand. DH has a Kayak and the children have started to paddle out a bit so it needs to safe waters.

I'd like somewhere that might be close to places of historic interest and also with villages to explore.
DH says Cornwall too busy in August.

Did you do North Pembs or South Pembs on your previous holidays?

Manorbier is fab, have included this link cos you can see the bay Grin

Always see surfers out when I walk the dog round that way.

Southwold, Southwold, Southwold! It’s lovely. Or Wells next to the Sea in Norfolk.

North Northumberland is stunning.

Lyme Regis in Dorset is lovely. Great bit of sandy beach, chance to go fossil hunting, nice little museum - recently refurbed.

Croyde bay is good for kids and there's good pubs there too

Norfolk beaches are amazing, and you can still have the traditional seaside experience at Hunstanton as well as visit quaint villages. If you like churches, Norfolk seems to have loads of lovely ones.

Oxwich is lovely. But three cliffs has a dangerous rip tide and no lifeguards as a result as the council can't safely put any on there. I am a surfer / lifeguard and wouldn't advise it at all for kids. But as a beach if you don't go in the sea, it is lovely. Caswell and Langland are great too. As is port eynon.

Norfolk coast, loved Mundesley and Cromer!

Agree that there are bits of Cornwall that are very busy in August but not all of it! We holiday in the SE around Looe and I have had days out on the Moors, on the beaches etc where we have felt a bit lonely! when we do go to Cornwall we stay HERE they have a swimming pool and farm animals so having a day in is as much fun and its a small and friendly group of cottages.

We live in the SW and whilst it's lovely in parts here, we actually escape to DH's family in Northumberland and enjoy a holiday there.

We are looking to go up in February possibly. Always cold but always lovely, plus family in Scotland that we drive up to see. Totally worth the 5 hours from N.Northumberland too :)
