Is there such a thing as a luxury seaside resort in the UK?

Just that, really. Looking for something 5* and perhaps with a private beach although I doubt there is such a thing in the UK. I would be happy to be proven wrong, though.

Does anyone know of anything? Preferably in England, but could consider Wales.

Thanks.

Have a look at GwelanMor in Cornwall

MissSmiley · 07/10/2017 13:14

Look up luxury family hotels they have several

ajandjjmum · 07/10/2017 13:16

Sandbanks Hotel is awful - DH and I stayed there last year, it was tatty, dirty and some rather odd guests.

The Scarlett in Cornwall is fabulous, but not family orientated.

ajandjjmum · 07/10/2017 13:17

We stayed at Tresanton when the DC were younger, and that was lovely too.

Austentatious · 07/10/2017 13:19

The Sandbanks hotel is very much not luxurious, it's the most overpriced dump in a fantastic setting. Suggest instead Thurlestone or Woolacoombe Bay hotels in s/ n Devon respectively ( far more luxurious than sandbanks, but still not boutique hotel glam). For high end luxury near but not on the beach, chewton glen is the only I've been to. There are several in Cornwall, but don't know them personally- at st makes / tresanthon

High five aj.... desperately disappointing isn't it? Tho we like the one the other side of Bournemouth they run - expectations far better managed by non insane pricing

Austentatious · 07/10/2017 14:15

Oh my goodness I can't believe I forgot Burgh Island! Entirely private island with excellent cocktails but no tellies or children allowed

Some great ideas, thank you.

Cary Arms, Devon. Delightful

leccybill · 09/10/2017 17:14

Abersoch is quite posh.

thesandwich · 09/10/2017 17:15

Port Merion in Wales.

The Pig On The Beach near Swanage is gorgeous. Not right on the beach, but a very, very short walk. It seems to get booked up months in advance though. Just a gorgeous location.

I soooo want to go here

Ontopofthesunset · 09/10/2017 17:22

Hell Bay on Tresco in the Scilly Isles? Not stayed there myself but I think it looks gorgeous and some very discriminating friends (stay in lots of boutique and luxury hotels) said it was lovely.

2014newme · 09/10/2017 17:24

Burgh island would be my choice

Imonlyfuckinghuman · 09/10/2017 17:26

I was came across a luxury lodge site and I'm sure it was in wales, very expensive and a helicopter pad. Cannot find it anywhere now Sad

I do not own a helicopter by the way !!

This one in Ireland, outside of your search perhaps but my favourite beach in Ireland and the spa is perfect. Big hotel with gorgeous seafood.

Carbis Bay Hotel. Just outside St Ives. I am waiting for their building works to finish before booking.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 09/10/2017 17:35

Portmeirion hotel is lovely. Beach is private in the evening after they chuck the day trippers our.

cowgirlsareforever · 09/10/2017 17:37

Definitely look at Abersoch. It's very posh.

carrotcakecupcake · 09/10/2017 17:38

The Scarlet is only 4 star but is very indulgent. Adult only and a wonderful spa with stunning views.
If you need something for the family Fowey Hall is lovely, though I don’t really rate the spa.

Panicmode1 · 09/10/2017 17:40

Chewton Glen is a luxury hotel, a (short) walk to the beach and is lovely, but it's not really a 'seaside resort' as such. We used to go to Thurlestone when we were children a lot, but I haven't been for years so I've no idea what it's like now, but we did enjoy it way back when....

Dottydress · 09/10/2017 18:06

Thurlestone is absolutely fantastic - but I would say depending on time of year there may be quite a few kids there! there is a kids club for activities (they'll even take them to the beach for you!) and also the beach is a little walk through the village and not private. We love it but we have young kids!

Burgh Island also wonderful but in a very different way - it's not a modern 5* so no pool or spa but its got huge amount of character and you can be on beautiful Bigbury beach in seconds... dress for dinner... its a real experience if just adults (though the age profile tends to be more mature.... )

Salcombe Habour? luxury and not too far from beaches...

TheFaerieQueene · 09/10/2017 18:10

The Scarlett at Mawgan Porth is fabulous but it doesn’t have a private beach.

PlainOldJosephineMary · 09/10/2017 18:12

Brownsea Island?
