Whereabouts in North Norfolk?

I know MN is very keen on North Norfolk so I've finally decided to give it a punt for this summer. I've left it a bit late, but I've found a few suitable places in a variety of places on the coast.

So where would you recommend, near a beach, maybe rockpools, not too big, not too small, couple of nice pubs and a cafe and a shop so we're not committed to getting in the car to go anywhere? DC are 12 and 14 but easily pleased by beaches, icecream, rockpools and baby seals.

Ah. I might be going there in July. Will look out for Starfish.

anxiouspotato · 02/06/2017 23:55

Sheringham.

I luffs it so much I got married there!

ibbydibby · 04/06/2017 22:59

West Runton for rockpools!

FanSpamTastic · 04/06/2017 23:30

We stayed in Holt - which was lovely. If you go to Wells go and see the alpacas! In the field near Budgens. You can even go out for a walk with them. here

Haha rumbled.
Wont be there in july though!

TestTubeTeen · 04/06/2017 23:50

Blakeney.

wewentoutonsunday · 05/06/2017 06:08

West Runton. Is close to sheringham also.

CormorantDevouringTime · 05/06/2017 07:04

I think I've narrowed it down to Sheringham or Blakeney, based on availability of suitable cottages. Sheringham a bit bigger than villages where we normally stay but looks nice, Blakeney looks lovely but doesn't have an actual beach.

West runton for fossil hunting and rock pools

I'd stay in one of the lovely villages inland and drive to the various beaches. Holt is lovely.

GinGeum · 05/06/2017 07:20

If you can find something in Brancaster, I would definitely recommend it! We have a house on the harbour and go there all the bloody time Grin it's lovely and quiet, there's two great pubs by the harbour (one very family friendly and one a bit posher for a treat) and the seal pool is brilliant. We had 12 seals bobbing over to us last time we went!

cute cottage
Perfect as a base.

CormorantDevouringTime · 05/06/2017 20:17

Thanks all, we're off to Sheringham. Choice was limited by late booking and fussyness, but we're ten minutes walk to the beach, which is always our priority for family hols because it means we can stroll along the edge at sunset after supper. Also Sheringham train station looks unbelievably cute.

Planning day trips to Norwich, baby seal spotting and possibly an expedition to the Broads - I've always wanted to do the Electric Eel trip.

Now all we need to do is pack all our jumpers.

Sheringham steam train station is indeed cute.

Go to the funky mackerel cafe in Sheringham for the best flap jack I've ever tasted and a great sea view.

hugoagogo · 05/06/2017 21:48

Don't forget bewilderwood too.

PandaG · 06/06/2017 14:07

Think your kids are too old for bewilderwood. If you like theatre the little theatre in Sheringham has weekly rep, usually a mix of comedy and thrillers. Rocket House cafe in Cromer is good for lunch, is a lovely walk along the promenade. Rocky Bottoms on the coast between Sheringham and Cromer is amazing for seafood, but not cheap.

We stay at www.kellingheath.co.uk/ and just travel to the other places for days out.
