Are you staying in the city centre?
What kind of things are you interested in?

lulumama · 15/03/2007 14:19

the Met Quarter is good for shopping

Mossie · 15/03/2007 14:21

Albert Dock - including a visit to Tate Liverpool.

Walker Art Gallery is also great.

Best café in my very humble opinion is the Egg Café. It is on Newington Street, which is off Bold Street. There's a tiny entrance and you go up a spiral stair case. It's vegetarian food but I'm not a veggy and I love it! Postcode is L1 4ED you'll be able to multimap it.

Don't know about restaurants I never eat out really!

Oh Alma de Cuba is my favourite bar, it used to be a church and they've kept loads of stuff from those days! It's on Seel Street, I don't know the post code but here is some blurb off a web site if you call them they might be able to get you directions? Drinks aren't cheap but it's worth it!

HTH

Lulumama is right the Met Quarter is great for shopping but it isn't cheap, it's designer stuff, so make sure you check your credit card limit before you go!

If you are a bar person there are some lovely places at the bottom end of town:

The Living Room, great for a bit of celeb spotting (John Barnes is a regular ). It's on Victoria Street. Again I don't know the postcode I'm sorry but multimap Victoria Street, actually there are a few nice bars on there.

Newz Bar, one of my faves (although not for the food it's a bit overpriced) they have their own web site .

Ohhh... all this is making me nostalgic I've hardly been out at all since I got pg about nine months ago!

What sort of thing are you into anyway I could be barking up the wrong tree with bars?

Well if you're doing touristy you must take a ferry across the Mersey of course.

Mersey Ferries .

Not to mention a trip on The Yellow Duckmarine!

Oh you are one week older than my dh he is 29 on the 17th!

The only thing I'm really not sure on is clubs, as I've not been clubbing for years!

Le Bateau used to be good, but not sure if it's still going! Was on Duke Street iirc.

Of course in "my day" we still had Cream!

Leander · 15/03/2007 14:36

The beatles museum??
yellow duck tour
Anglican cathedral
Oh my god i am terribly unaware of what goes on in my home city

Mossie · 15/03/2007 14:37

I have a confession, I've lived in or near Liverpool most of my life (brief interlude in London ) but have never done the mystery tour, sorry!

Mossie · 15/03/2007 14:38

Oh yes I deffo second the Anglican Cathedral if they still do the trips up to the very top for the view!

I didn't even know those tickets existed!

Looks quite good, you get quite a few places free? Oh you get money off at Sapporo Teppanyaki now that is one place I have been (was paid for by work lol) and I would recommend it, too. You have to sit on a big table with loads of other people though, but people are really friendly and you would enjoy yourselves.

Lemme have a think overnight and will get back to you tomorrow I'm about to go put my carrots on now and then it's bed time!

Mossie · 17/03/2007 13:13

Aimsmum, one thing you might want to do is go and see Another Place, the Anthony Gormley installation. Now it's not in the City Centre, it's two or three stops out on the train, but it is worth it. Especially if the weather is as nice as it is today!

Another Place .

There has been a battle to keep the installation where it is which has finally been won, although I think they have to remove some of the statues for safety reasons.

In terms of pubs (rather than bars), two of my favourites are the Jacaranda on Slater Street (L1 4BW if you want to multimap it), Thomas Rigby's (L2 2EZ) which serves some gorgeous real ales and continental lagers. I used to love the Picket on Hardman Street but I think it closed down a while back now.

If you're going to the Anglican Cathedral to see the view, on the way back you could do worse than pop to the Pilgrim, on Pilgrim St (L1 9HB), another lovely pub.

(Please bear in mind I'm remembering most of these pubs from student days so they might be a bit studenty...)

HTH and hopefully there will be someone else along who can tell you about all the clubs, not been clubbing in many years myself I'm afraid!

Better go it is my dh's birthday today and we're having a mad one... er, staying in with a takeaway and a DVD!!!
