Norfolk with older parents - where would you stay?

Yep the Hoste in Burnham Market. Very naice and not far from Holkham. Also worth looking on Alistair Sawdays, they list lots of pubs with rooms.

There are hundreds of places that would meet your criteria, so I suggest you figure out exactly what you want to see while you're there and then zero in on a particular area. Norfolk is big and it can take quite a while to get around, as the roads are narrow and winding.

If you want to be on the coast itself you might want to take a look at The Blakeney Hotel or The White Horse in Brancaster, or perhaps the Hoste Arms in Burnham Market. Aylsham is a nice market town a bit more inland and near Blickling Hall (National Trust). Other stately homes - Holkham Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Oxburgh Hall - but they're quite spread out.

How much older? We stay with my mum in a caravan in Wells.

I am from Norfolk and got married there, we had our wedding night at the Ship in Brancaster which is really lovely. Then you are not far from Burnham Market, Holt, or Cley, and can do trips to the beach. Brancaster is one of the nicest beaches along that part of the coast.

Also, when are you thinking of going? I would avoid the school summer holidays up at the coast - the roads are very busy.

There's loads of pub hotels along that stretch of coast and most are ok. Wells is lovely to look around and there's Holkham Hall next to it. Burnham Market is also great to have a poke around. There are also loads of sandy beaches. But you mentioned accessibility and most of these require quite a bit of walking, so do check that it is suitable for you.

what day trips would you do?

How long are you going for? There's Wells, a lovely fishing town with fab fish and chips and a great beach, although it is a bit of a hike even from the beach car park. Burnham Market has loads of little interesting shops. All the villages are really pretty, but I'm not sure what you would actually do iyswim. If you like stately homes there's Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall is a little inland. Further round the coast there's Felbrigg Hall near Cromer, and Blickling near Aylsham, both of these are National trust. Norwich is a great city to look round and you can always have a day on the broads - boats are easy to hire.

Holkham is gorgeous, but quite a long walk to the beach (of the car park is already full). We like Wells, somewhere beginning with S which the train runs to and Holt (the other end of the trainline- an old steam train). There's a lovely pub/accommodation place in Thornham too- really gorgeous, but you'd need to travel every day from there.

Would highly recommend Kelling Heath too- wooden lodges in beautiful woods, good for transport to all of the above.

Sheringham! Old school seaside town

Cley Windmill in Cley next the sea is a B&B, looks v naive, although I've never stayed there yet. There's a nice hotel in Blackney I stayed at years ago which was lovely but I can't remember the name. Lovely stately homes to visit Holkham hall, Houghton Hall, Oxborough Hall. Yes to Wells next the sea, and we liked Sheringham and Cromer. I really must book a holiday in that area again soon, lovely places.

There's an old steam train that runs from Sheringham to Holt which was fun. Holt was very picturesque too.
