Hi all,

Can anyone suggest pretty seaside place with fish and chips etc and rock pools, nice beach (so nirvana!) that isn't Cornwall. Am feeling attracted to wales...maybe...

Thanks

As previous posters have said, there are some very naice coastal towns / villages in Suffolk but no rockpools and while there is some sand, shingle is more the name of the game.

East Neuk of Fife - Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem.

Tenby,
Manorbier,
Coppet Hall beach at the far end of Saundersfoot,
Wisemans Bridge
Whitesands
Dale

All in Pembrokeshire and there's plenty more beaches to choose from too - have a look at the Visit Pembrokeshire website for more ideas!

Southwold is lovely. Gorgeous beach, nice little town with cafes, a few good pubs and chippy. There are a few nice towns near by too. I would also second Llandudno, and we really liked Colwyn Bay when we stayed for a few days, and we stayed for a week near Harlech in Wales and loved it. There's enough in that area to keep you entertained for a week, it's near to Portmeirion, Shell Island and other lovely little towns. When we were there, the weather wasn't great but we still had a lovely week.

Saundersfoot near Tenby is lovely, not as picturesque as Cornwall but it has a lovely seaside feel to it. Brixham is also nice but it gets very busy in summer.

MrPoppersPenguins · 08/03/2017 07:59

Stop recommending Pembrokeshire people.... or soon it will be as busy as Cornwall Wink

It's our perfect escape for beautiful scenery, beaches and the coastal path is wonderful. Tenby is a good place to base yourself and explore from there.

So long as they keep recommending South Pembs, I don't mind MrPoppersPenguins. Mind you, St Davids is much busier now than when I grew up there. I dread to think what high summer in Cornwall is like.

Another one for robin hoods bay. Amazing place just so beautiful plus the added bonus of fossil hunting and crabbing, kids love it and we go every year, also staithes if you want something even quieter and whitby if you want something busier

Gingerbreadmam · 08/03/2017 09:00

staithes (north yorkshire)
whitby (north yorkshire)
sandsend (north yorkshire)
saltburn (north yorkshire)
ĺlandudno (wales)

depends what you like to do. plenty to do at whitby, saltburn and llandudno. not a lot in sandsend and staithes but some nice pubs with good pub grub and a lovely sea front.

Agree Pembrokeshire is very like Cornwall without the crowds.
We had a lovely time in Broad Haven a couple of years ago. Nice beach and the crystal clear sea was beautiful. Little Haven was pretty too. Try the Stay in the Havens website.

Definitely Pembrokeshire! It's beautiful. I went there for the first time a few years back and was Shock and wondering why I'd not been there before. Agree it's like a more unspoilt, less crowded Cornwall.

Filey (North Yorkshire )
Saltburn (North East)
Bamburgh (Northumberland)
Barmouth (Mid Wales coast)
Shell Island (Mid Wales coast)
Anglesey (Newborough forest and beach in particular)
Talacre is a very small village in North Wales but an amazing beach

And my absolute favourite place is Llandudno in north Wales, a lovely town and I absolutely love it, it's my spiritual home Smile

Mammamooandboo · 08/03/2017 16:53

Ooh yes saltburn as well is beautiful and hardly ever busy

NotYoda · 08/03/2017 16:55

Northumberland is indeed lovely. We went last Summer beautiful and not over-run. Catch the boat over to Lindisfarne
