Pretty seaside village / town like Cornwall

Hi all,

Can anyone suggest pretty seaside place with fish and chips etc and rock pools, nice beach (so nirvana!) that isn't Cornwall. Am feeling attracted to wales...maybe...

Tenby? If you want a little town next to a pretty beach with cliffs then Tenby is very nice. You would also be not far from some truly stunning beaches like Barafundle Bay and Three Cliffs but these are a bit more remote ie no shops

What places in Cornwall do you like / want to find something similar to?

Aberystwyth, nice beach at Borth

Whitstable / Herne Bay in Kent, nice beach at mini is bay

Lovely beaches in Northumberland

Robins hood bay

Sidmouth in Devon? It's really lovely.

Somewhere in the Pembrokeshire coast? Marloes Sands is a lovely beach. You can get the from either Dale or Marloes.

Southwold. Cream teas, lovely pier, beautiful beaches.

Loads of places along the Dorset, Suffolk heritage coast and the north Norfolk Coast. The Northumberland coast.

Broadstairs, Rye, Whitstable. Hastings Old Town and Deal (both quite hip and trendy now if you can turn a blind eye to the great unwashed element around and about.) YY to Sidmouth, very nice.

Are you talking about buying, or going for a holiday? Can it be anywhere in the UK and does it need to be easily accessible from anywhere in particular?

But Cornwall has more reliable good weather.

Whitesands, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Also see St Davids while you are there. Coasteering too!

Wales is just as lovely as Cornwall, and less crowded

Dunno about that. Been to Cornwall two years running, first year we got caught in the tail end of a hurricane where a festival was cancelled as it was blowing the tents away. Second year, it continually pissed it down for two whole weeks.

Went to Robin Hood's Bay last year and the weather was glorious. And it was about a third of the cost of Cornwall.

Port Eynon on the Gower in Wales has 2 chippies, rock pools and a couple of shops. It's lovely there.

Another vote for Tenby.

Well not always such great weather far west either! Statistically your best chance of warmth, dryness and (reasonably) consistent sunshine is Essex, Suffolk and to a lesser extent Norfolk and the south east coast.

North east and north west are very wet.

Definitely Pembrokeshire; it feels like Cornwall - just quieter! Tenby is an excellent suggestion, though I find that busy.

Largs

Llandudno in North Wales is lovely.

And I love Bamburgh in Northumberland.

Pembrokeshire is like a less crowded Cornwall. The coast is a national park is is truely stunning. I live on the Devon/Cornwall border but my in-laws are Pembrokeshire so have loads of experience of both. I find Pembrokeshire a bit lacking in cute villages and towns compared to Cornwall but the beaches are fabulous.

Well that will be why it's less crowded than Cornwall. People want the Holy Grail of beaches and cute towns and villages.

Manorbier in Pembrokeshire (small beach, rock pools, gentle stream, parking) all overlooked by a castle!

My two spent many hours building dams in the stream. Used to get there early to nab free parking spot.

Tenby is nice but busy, September is quieter. South beach is so big could always have loads of space around us.

I adore Narberth.

Porthcawl is nice to wander around, ice-cream on the front but go to Rest Bay for the beach, caravans at Trecco Bay are dire.

Try Broadhaven in Pembrokeshire too.
Tenby does get manic.
Sheringham in Norfolk.

Have to correct someone up above to say the North East is not very wet. It's one of the driest parts of the country. It is cooler and windy though.

Otherwise, watching with interest as I fancy a UK holiday this year.
