Liverpool with teenage boys - what are the must do/sees?

Looking to do a few nights in Liverpool with DH and teenagers (16 & 15).

Was thinking obviously something Beetles related and maybe the Ferry across the Mersey. Any thoughts/suggestions? Boys not interested in shopping.

Have a look on Airbnb. There are some great apartments in the city centre.
My boys' dad lives in Liverpool so they spend every other weekend there.
Liverpool One is good for cinema and close to the Waterfront. They love Otterspool - I think there might be a skate park there too.
Can you still do the tunnels under the city? Mine enjoyed that when they did it.
I'm a bit vague because they do all this without me but they love going to Liverpool.
I actually think the cathedrals are worth a look. You can go to the top of the Anglican cathedral and the views are stunning.
They had a tuk tuk tour recently too, which sounded cool.
I'd definitely recommend Liverpool. DH and I go a few times a year and we love it. Bit weird we don't do it as a family but all of us love the city.

I'm really looking forward to it. I think I am quite struck by the Shankly tbh, I need to wait until I speak to DH (he's in bed) to see if he is happy with the change of dates. That would mean arriving just after lunch on Tuesday and leaving just before Dinner on Friday. That gives us more or less 3 full days.

unfortunately too late for the food festival alibob I'm away to check theatre etc again in case the change of dates opens up new choices.

Ah fab to hear - I absolutely loved the Shankley, definitely has a luxury feel about it! Have a brilliant time!

WankersHacksandThieves · 31/08/2016 19:35

Thanks all, still haven't worked out the itinerary but train tickets arrived so as soon as DS1 gets sorted for DofE this weekend then I'll get googling!

If you've never been before, then I'm jealous, OP.

I'm from Liverpool and I'd love to see it for the first time through a visitor's eyes. It's a magnificent city.

leccybill · 31/08/2016 19:46

And if you're going in October and your boys like extreme experiences and zombies, then Farmageddon is pretty legendary.

WankersHacksandThieves · 31/08/2016 20:53

Thanks leccy. I've really no idea why I've never been! I'm originally from Edinburgh though so I get what you mean. I can remember just going about my daily business one day and seeing the tourists all round taking photos and I turned to see what they were looking at and thinking actually, that view is stunning but I walk past it every day and don't even look at it anymore.

Farmageddon sounds awesome

Speke hall is good national trust property it's a few miles out from the city centre near the airport but you can get the bus easily if you don't mind a bit of a walk from the bus stop.
Could get the ferry over to New Brighton walk along the prom few restaurants and arcades there and a great view of the Liverpool skyline.
Hope Street area and the cathedrals you could include a trip to the Williamson tunnels on the same day not far from hope Street.

Shiver pool walking ghost tours are really good evening entertainment too. Think they do a bus tour now
