Accommodation in London in August with 3 children-aid there anyway I can do this without taking a second mortgage??

I would be really, really grateful for any tips on reasonably priced accommodation in London for a family of 5. We want to go for a Saturday night in August. I've just been looking online and it seems we might need 2 rooms because we have 3 children - youngest is 1 though, would he count as a person? Most of the places I've seen cost the same as a week away elsewhere!

Do you have to be in Central London or would the suburbs do? It would be much cheaper!

The premier inn I stayed at was near Euston.

Premier inn in Stratford is pretty cheap were staying there for a week in August for around £300. Stratford is 10 minute walk away through the big shopping centre and 2 minute train to London Liverpool and you can gt anywhere from there or If the children are tired you can get the DLR from Stratford to Stratford international which is opposite the hotel.

Will you be leaving the family party before last trains leave ie c11.30 to midnight? If so you could look at places eg in Surrey, Kent etc maybe 30 mins train ride for a travelodge or similar. The reverse journey the following morning for attractions etc. some train tix also allow for free/reduced entry to attractions in London

We stayed at the Novotel London City South. It was very family friendly and because it is within the city part of London quite quiet and reasonably priced at the weekend. It is about 1 minutes walk from the Thames by the Globe, South Bank, St Paul's etc so well placed for sightseeing too.

Putney Bridge is on the district line direct to South Kensington (museums) and Embankment (close to CG). Where is the family party?

In a flat? Though it would have to be for longer I fear.

We have 2 rooms for 2 nights at Beckton premier inn and it's costing £180 in total so quite reasonable and easily commutable. Have older 2 girls going to exel and we will be going into Central London both days

What about a hostel? YHA usually have family rooms with cots available too.

There are lots of places near East Croydon, then 15 mins to Central London on the train.

Agree with Grin, we have 4 DC and our last London trip we stayed in a family room in a YHA hostel in Kensington. Wasn't cheap cheap but a lot less than 2 premier inn rooms

Also a family of 5 and always use airbnb. You can get away with renting a 2 bed place: 2 doubles and one on sofa / arrived in sitting room. We've stayed in some lovely places in great areas.

Premiered Inn South Ken (may be called Earls Court) - fab big family rooms with cot. Stayed last summer, 20 main walk to museums, on circle line for easy into centre.

Family room in the YHA near Great Portland Street sleeps 6, has a lock on the door, and is very handily located. About £100 a night, as I recall.

Just to give you a heads up about airbnb, often they will also want you to take more than one night too.

There have also recently been London Boroughs that have placed restrictions on Airbnb where it's a whole flat rented out, I am not sure if some of them have not come into place or if some owners are flying under the radar. See for example this
