Town to stay in Cornwall that isn't St Ives?

We'd like to spend a week in Cornwall based in a village or town that has beaches but isn't St Ives? Any recommendations?

St Austell may have a nice beach but is a major bottle neck for driving, I always tried to find alternative routes.

I second the Lizard Peninsula, grew up there, lovely part of the county and not as "touristy" as "up North" eg Newquay.
