We'd like to spend a week in Cornwall based in a village or town that has beaches but isn't St Ives? Any recommendations?

Newquay, Padstow, Bude, Penzance?

We stay near st michaels mount and there is is a lovely beach at perranuthanoe. Great surfing at gwithian beach and cafés. It's an ideal central area so you can travel easily to st Ives or pad stow etc.

Skiingmaniac · 04/08/2014 22:54

Love Padstow......also stayed near Bude....Looe might be worth a look to.

Spockster · 04/08/2014 22:55

Why not St Ives?
( DOI: about to go to St Ives for a week Smile)

Ninjabread · 04/08/2014 23:33

Went to St Ives last time! That's the only reason why!

Padstow is horribly crowded at this time of year. We didn't actually get to see very much of it because it was so crowded.

JenniferJo · 05/08/2014 07:56

Try The Lizard Peninsula much quieter than the rest of Cornwall. Poldhu is lovely.

8dayweek · 05/08/2014 08:10

We usually stay in Crantock. It's really lovely and has a gorgeous beach.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 05/08/2014 08:16

Fowey is nice. Just got back from a week there.

Heels99 · 05/08/2014 08:17

I vote for crantock too, beautiful thatched cottage village with amazing beach, nice restaurants in the area, 10 min drive to newquay if you want boat trip, zoo, swimming pool, harbour life. Also like rose land peninsula and Penzance. Caribs bay near st Ives is nice. Fowey also lovely

Heels99 · 05/08/2014 08:18

Not a fan of pads tow though

8dayweek · 05/08/2014 08:23

I'm jealous now Hmm I want to go to Cornwall! If you go for Crantock I can highly recommend Crantock Cottages (www.crantock-cottages.biz I think) and Trevella Park Caravan / Camping site.

IrianofWay · 05/08/2014 12:24

Crantock
Fowey (not loads of beaches but enough lovely ones and lots of other reasons to be there).
Padstow.

Looe, Polperro anywhere on the South east coast that you can get to on the A38 rather than sit on the A30 car park. when do you want to go?

pickles184 · 07/08/2014 16:51

Polperro, Penzance, St.Austell are all worth a visit. There is a fab resort called Retallack that are pretty handy for much of Cornwall

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 07/08/2014 20:11

What's in St Austell?

ElephantsNeverForgive · 07/08/2014 20:18

Sennen cove,

Boysclothes · 07/08/2014 20:22

We stayed at retallack a few weeks ago, it was brilliant. Mawgan porth beach was lovely.

FryOneFatManic · 08/08/2014 12:38

Falmouth has a nice beach, as does Looe.

I do remember a long long time ago that Porthcurno beach was great.
