Birmingham - somewhere cheap but gorgeous

Please please help! I've got a glam wedding to go to in Birmingham in November - just dh and me OVERNIGHT. In my head there is an ideal B&B to stay at near the Botanical Gardens for under £40 for one night - somewhere with class - preferably no dusty patterned carpets but no big crimson swags and hunting prints either. Does it exist?

here? . Not especially gorgeous I'm afraid but not too expensive and within a mile of the Botanical gardens.

bea · 15/08/2006 21:37

when i was having a luxurious moment (in my head of course) i thought about booking me and dh into one of one of these as it's just across the road from Jessica's - which is supposed to be a fab place to eat.... anyway.. a bit over your budget... but go on and splurge then tell me whether it was as fab as it looks!!!!

bea · 15/08/2006 21:45

or here ...

which is just down the road from where i live and i've always thought it looked quite nice... very very close to Cadbury's factory...!!! on a good day you can smell the chocolate!!!

15-20 mins from botanicals...

helsy · 15/08/2006 21:45

What about Malmaison? Never been there but supposed to be quite nice, can't do links but it looked like you can get a room for 89 quid sometimes, and Hotel du Vin website says they do room and breakfast for 99 quid in August. Did you mean 40 quid a head?

acnebride · 15/08/2006 23:10

all looking fab but unfortunately i meant 40 quid in total - ok call it 50 - i'm really trying to avoid the travelodge option, i much prefer B&Bs.

old farm hotel a possibility - i like the look of the rooms.

acnebride · 15/08/2006 23:20

cazzybabs · 15/08/2006 23:21

OHH I got married their in April!

cazzybabs · 15/08/2006 23:23

There are not so glam places like the travel inn, holiday inn etc on Broad street.

jampots · 15/08/2006 23:24

crikey its years since I was around there at night. Im sure theres a nice hotel in Harborne but cant remember the name. Theres a lot of hotels on the Hagley Road but I imagine you wouldnt want to stay in a few of them ;)

I will look for you

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 15/08/2006 23:25

Hehe JP

Some of the hotels on the hagly road would give them a night to remember

jampots · 15/08/2006 23:28

not sure about gorgeous but quite cheap

cazzybabs · 15/08/2006 23:29

Well pay by the hour (as long as you don't mind squels and moans!!)

What is the one on five ways that used to be the Swallow - tis more like a £100 per night - but is nice.

jampots · 15/08/2006 23:30

once again although I cant place this one - hopefully its because its set in leafy grounds as opposed to just bookable by the hour

acnebride · 15/08/2006 23:35

ooh many thanks for all these

do you think that driving 13 miles after the wedding would be a bad idea? dh has promised that he will drive (he's reliable and doesn't drink much) because i'm slavering over this place

OP posts:
jampots · 15/08/2006 23:37

wow thats lovely acnebride. However, the journey from B/G to TinA is a cack one and may seem a lot longer than 13 miles

acnebride · 15/08/2006 23:41

thanks for your words of sense jampots

because it's over budget as well

trying again

I would suggest looking around Harborne, Birmingham city centre/Broad Street, Mailbox (although definitely over budget). Edgbaston too but in reality a large portion of the area is red light so please dont book without first enquiring. Cheap isnt always good in this case ;)

jampots · 15/08/2006 23:51

There's a place called The Robin Hood at Hall Green on A34 - its a Toby Carvery but there's also a hotel attached. I'll call tomorrow to ask about rates if you like - not close but not far from b/g (about 5/6 miles or so). What dates are you lookin for?

acnebride · 15/08/2006 23:54

I'm sending enquiries to the Old Farm Hotel and to the Woodbrooke Centre in case they will do accommodation only - you don't ask, you don't get!
