For DH's 40th birthday please. Don't mind where (city/country/coast). Great food and a spa would be nice Smile

Gidleigh Park. Absolutely outstanding, without seeming to try.

Hi here.. not sure if you have booked yet. But we LOVES lime wood in the new forest! recommended it to a friend for her fortieth and they equally LOVED it! its not cheap, but its fab and a bit cool as well! x

Guitar girl I've not yet read whole thread so someone may have already said this but syon park in London is indeed amazing!
Also recommend the Edinburgh dalmahoy hotel suite in one of the turrets.
Would like to try samling hotel in Lake District.

Lonecatwithkitten · 09/05/2013 21:28

Le Manoir really fab.
The Hamborough in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight make sure you get a table in a bay window for dinner looking out on the sea.

BeCool · 10/06/2013 17:17

I've always fancied staying at London's Mandarin Oriental hotel

singaporefling · 10/06/2013 22:32

Star Inn at Harome - beautiful.... The Witchery Edinburgh with dinner at the Secret Garden (window table) The Rookery.... Dean St Townhouse for the buzz with dinner there or Boca di Lupa nearby... Always fanicies Pavillon de La Reine in Paris... Soneva Gili or Reethi Rah in the Maldives... Raffles Singapore...

Chippychop · 10/06/2013 22:50

Any mandarin oriental
The grove - Watford
Lucknam park
Oh and I love the arts hotel in Barcelona

Wickedwaterwitch · 15/06/2013 13:42

I love One Aldwych and The Haymarket and Hotel Tresanton. I love hotels really.

I've eaten at Le Manoir but not stayed, it was amazing.

The hotels I really want to try are

Hotel Endsleigh in Devon (same people as Tresanton)
Gidleigh Park
Claridges

I didn't care for Cowley Manor.

Wickedwaterwitch · 15/06/2013 13:43

I agree about The Hambrough on the Isle of Wight, amazing food. They have rooms too.

Wickedwaterwitch · 15/06/2013 13:43

I also fancy

Lime Wood
Chewton Glen
The new one near Whitehall, can't remember its name

Wickedwaterwitch · 15/06/2013 13:45

I think Hotel Tresanton is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. And I've stayed in a lot!

I've stayed at The Haymarket several times and it's always been great.

Gorran · 15/06/2013 17:15

I would agree re. Tresanton, loved it. Just wish it wasn't so far from London!

Gidleigh Park is high up on my wish list.

Chippychop · 16/06/2013 20:39

Why not check out the mr& mrs smith guides

BeCool · 17/06/2013 10:26

South of France -la Colombe d'Or

littlepopsy · 18/06/2013 18:44

Another vote for Lucknam Park. Spa was dreamy ! Also, there is a choice of the super posh restaurant and a less formal one. I liked this option for a two night stay. I booked through Mr and Mrs Smith, and we got a free afternoon tea ! Lots to see nearby, or sit by the pool and read (or mess around on MN !!)

Basketofchocolate · 18/06/2013 18:51

The Glasshouse in Edi - esp if you like whisky?

There are a few companies that specialise in such places - can't remember the Scots one. Luxuryscotland maybe? It's all helicopters and picnic hamper type places

Celtic Manor in Wales?

Gleneagles?

Claridges?

Abroad: South coast France? Nice - can't remember the one that overlooks the front. Begins with a D maybe.

Boucan estate by Hotel Chocolat in St Lucia? Spa, chocolate....perfect Envy

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 28/07/2013 19:16

I've had dinner at Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental and it is fantastic - dunno about the hotel.

Portmeirion (hotel rather than the Village) is my personal fave - once the day trippers have been kicked out and you have the beach to yourselves it's absolutely magical.
