We are off to Chester (child-free) and would love some recommendations of where to eat and drink. We like real ale and DH is vegetarian. What do you think? Also, any places to go for breakfast as I don't fancy paying the hotel's price. Any replies appreciated.

Or if you go into hoole, baked cafe is nice for breakfast and the sticky walnut in IMO the very nicest restaurant in the area.

RandallPinkFloyd · 30/01/2013 13:19

I love the blue moon!

hellsbells99 · 30/01/2013 15:12

oooh I love the Sticky Walnut! Not tried Joseph Benjamin though - I feel a night out coming on.....

bigbadbarry · 30/01/2013 15:39

JB is second best to the Sticky Walnut, but the food is just as good. It is just sometimes a bit tricky to find something you fancy on the menu iyswim. Any excuse for a night out though, eh :)

RandallPinkFloyd · 30/01/2013 16:10

Sticky walnut is fab, just a shame it's a bit outside the city.

chickensaresafehere · 30/01/2013 16:16

If you like real ale you MUST visit 'The Albion pub,its fab.

Ruprekt · 30/01/2013 16:25

DH and I are going to Chester for a dirty weekend in May.

DB and SIL are having the boys!

Which hotel are you staying in Jimmy?

RandallPinkFloyd · 30/01/2013 16:46

Ooh, the Albion. I really want to go to the pub now Grin

bigbadbarry · 30/01/2013 16:52

Meet you there in an hour

tinierclanger · 30/01/2013 16:55

Another vote for Joseph Benjamin, and their new tapas place next door to it!

RandallPinkFloyd · 30/01/2013 16:59

I know, I'm sat here playing my little violin and looking at my no beer!

bigbadbarry · 30/01/2013 17:01

(Maybe we should have a Chester meet, now this thread has brought us all out of the woodwork)

bigbadbarry · 30/01/2013 17:01

(do I mean woodwork? Why would we be in woodwork?)

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2013 17:07

Envy at meet up in Chester. I live in Worcestershire. Sad

Ffuntimewincies · 30/01/2013 17:10

If you're looking for somewhere to watch The 6 Nations with ale then the Mill Hotel used to show it (and presumably still does).

This year's Good Beer Guide also has...
Bear and Billet (Okells and guest ales)
Brewery Tap (Spitting Feathers and guests)
Cellar (various)
Mill Hotel (various)
Old Harkers Arms (Coach House and guests)
Pied Bull (Adnams and guests)

As someone else has said, The Albion is worth a look. Used to be in the guide but now not so not sure what the beer quality is like.

Hoole cafe, yy, and if you're large of nork, take advantage of the fab independent lingerie shop there too Grin.

bigbadbarry · 30/01/2013 17:13

chester beer project for reference :)

Ruprekt · 30/01/2013 20:11

bumping for OP's hotel

JimmyTarbuck · 30/01/2013 23:08

We're staying at the Abode, Ruprekt. Thanks everyone for the helpful stuff you've written.

Special thanks to bigbadbarry for that link. DH is getting a trouser tingle reading it all.

bigbadbarry · 31/01/2013 07:30

Oh I so want to eat at abode! Have it earmarked for our next "big" anniversary. Very nice too!

Sparklingbrook · 31/01/2013 07:34
