Off to Chester this weekend. Where to eat and drink? Would love your ideas.

We are off to Chester (child-free) and would love some recommendations of where to eat and drink. We like real ale and DH is vegetarian. What do you think? Also, any places to go for breakfast as I don't fancy paying the hotel's price. Any replies appreciated.

If you're looking for somewhere to watch The 6 Nations with ale then the Mill Hotel used to show it (and presumably still does).

As someone else has said, The Albion is worth a look. Used to be in the guide but now not so not sure what the beer quality is like.

Hoole cafe, yy, and if you're large of nork, take advantage of the fab independent lingerie shop there too .

Sticky walnut is fab, just a shame it's a bit outside the city.

JB is second best to the Sticky Walnut, but the food is just as good. It is just sometimes a bit tricky to find something you fancy on the menu iyswim. Any excuse for a night out though, eh :)

Or if you go into hoole, baked cafe is nice for breakfast and the sticky walnut in IMO the very nicest restaurant in the area.

I live in Chester too... Was also going to recommend Joseph Benjamin to eat, and the Pied Bull (opposite) has a microbrewery, so that might be of interest. Will you have a car or are you staying city-based? I know some good breakfast places around and about. The blue moon cafe by the river does a good breakfast if you don't want to drive out, or "fud" cafe at the top of sandy lane - depends where you are staying because that's a bit of a walk if you were central.
