The DCs and i went to Cornwall 2 summers agp (left DH working) and had a fab time and we'd like to go back. I'm just looking at 4 days this time though but I'm wondering if a 5 hour drive each way for 4 nights stay in Cornwall is a tad too much (for all of us, not just DCs).

Last time, they were fab on the way there but pants on the way back. So bad that I had to pull over on the hard shoulder of the motorway and threaten them because their bickering was going to cause me to have an accident, or at least that's what it felt like.

They are now 11 and 7.

WWYD?

thanks AF. I was rather hoping there is going to be so much rain in June that come July, it will be only sunshine everywhere. No?

Rabid - if they were babies i think I'd go with hesitation (is that an oxymoron?). It's because they are the age they are that they argue, torment each other etc. which makes it so unpleasant.

Yes, I would. Until last year I'd have said no, but we had to go from The Frozen North to Cornwall for a wedding and couldn't stay long, but it was surprisingly fine.

HMQueenElizabeth · 10/06/2012 18:52

Yes definitely. I'm from Cornwall but now live about 5 hours away and I sometimes go just for the one night, but usually two.

I think 4 nights will be a great break for you all.

thank you all but please see my comment at 17.33 though guys. Cornwall or Devon???

Yes

my family are 5 hours away, so i have to do it (did it today actually with 9m DD (yorkshire to south coast)

i try and make sure i am there for at least 3 nights, but (Pre DD) i have done it for just 2) and (again pre DD) regularly traveled up friday at 6pm ish then left sunday morning, so only really having 1 day here

Rabid · 10/06/2012 19:56

Gah. Don't let them be unkind to each other. Why do they do that ?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 10/06/2012 19:57

Devon.

DowagersHump · 10/06/2012 20:00

I would go for the caravan because a) I love them and b) I hate staying in hotels with children. And cutting 3 hours off your travelling time isn't to be sniffed at either

mckenzie · 10/06/2012 20:56

the caravan/Devon won. I've just booked it. Please please please let the weather be kind to us Smile

and your toes please AF. I don't mind if it isn't sunny but please don't let it rain. Will Ocado deliver to a caravan on a cliff do you think?

we often do the 5/6 hour cornwall trip for just a weekend. though Mil is there so it is a duty..i think we'd probably go much closer for choice.

I like Devon too ..bit less wet and wild. just as fudgey.

my kids are younger though so usually sleep most of the way. travelling later help you at all?

AnyFucker · 10/06/2012 21:23

Ocado ??

Grin maybe not...

mckenzie · 10/06/2012 21:39

when we went to Cornwall before we left about 5 am and the journey there was really good. Stopped once for breakfast, DCs were fab. Coming back we left about 3pm and they were telling by about 4pm Sad. I think i did the right thing going for Devon. Thanks all

Yeah we drove to West Wales Feb half term, at least 4 hrs in car with 3 DC aged 12, 10, 8, it was fine.

We were there for 4 nights IIRC and it was fine, well worth it.

Devon or Cornwall both nice. Not mad keen on caravans but I don't liek hotels either

DowagersHump · 10/06/2012 22:48

I have had deliveries down farm tracks in the past (well I lie - the van couldn't get down the track so the driver had to come down and get me so I could drive up and collect it but it can be done!)

You can't possibly have worse weather than we had at half term! Angry :o
