The DCs and i went to Cornwall 2 summers agp (left DH working) and had a fab time and we'd like to go back. I'm just looking at 4 days this time though but I'm wondering if a 5 hour drive each way for 4 nights stay in Cornwall is a tad too much (for all of us, not just DCs).

Last time, they were fab on the way there but pants on the way back. So bad that I had to pull over on the hard shoulder of the motorway and threaten them because their bickering was going to cause me to have an accident, or at least that's what it felt like.

They are now 11 and 7.

Yes! But then we happily drive 2 1/2 hours for a day out! Luckily our daughter travels well, and I love car journeys freak

VickityBoo · 09/06/2012 22:04

Do you have DVD players and earphones?

nancy75 · 09/06/2012 22:04

Personally no I wouldn't, is there somewhere closer that you could go?

TheSkiingGardener · 09/06/2012 22:04

Go! They are older and more bribable. 5 hours is not too bad, 1 big break in the middle, planned to coincide somewhere with a playground.

Harr1etJ0nes · 09/06/2012 22:06

I would. We do to go to Stratford for a one nigh stay. Have done it with dd3 who was just 1 last time.
All mine travel well though.

Born2BRiiiled · 09/06/2012 22:06

Definitely. I'd do that for two nights tbh.

PotteringAlong · 09/06/2012 22:07

We did it this week! Go!

mckenzie · 09/06/2012 22:07

thanks for all the replies. It's looking like it's a yes huh? Smile

Before Kids Yes but Not Now. I see your 2 DC & raise the bickering by 2^2 (2 more DC to factor in).
Except that my cousin is going to be in Italy in August 2013, & we are talking about a weekend break for all of us to go see her, even though it will be way more than 5 hours to get there. So I guess I would do it, after all, but only in special circumstances.

Pascha · 10/06/2012 16:58

I would and do. I wouldn't consider it a holiday if it was less than about 3 hours away. 5 is normal for us.

ceeveebee · 10/06/2012 16:59

Yes, we often drive up to Manchester to visit folks for 3 day weekends, usually takes 5-6 hours including a stop (6mo twins though so probably easier than older DCs)

BelleDameSansMerci · 10/06/2012 17:00

Yes, without a second thought. Why not?

daisyrain · 10/06/2012 17:06

Definately, we used to drive 7 hours to get to Cornwall, then moved there!
Never looked back.
Have a fab time!

Chewbecca · 10/06/2012 17:08

Certainly, have done many times and will again. Only one child though so no bickering.

Wallace · 10/06/2012 17:08

I did 6 hours for a 4 day break with 4 dc (youngest was 1ish) mym mum came oo but i was the only driver

AnyFucker · 10/06/2012 17:09

of course !

bigTillyMint · 10/06/2012 17:09

Yes. Sadly we have to do this every time we visit Grandma or our BF's. It's worth itSmile

bigTillyMint · 10/06/2012 17:10

Oh, and as DS spent the whole of the last journey home throwing up, there was no bickering at allWink

Pedigree · 10/06/2012 17:11

When I was younger, I used to drive 5 hrs just to go shopping and return at the end of the day. 5 hrs for 4 day is no big deal.

Primrose123 · 10/06/2012 17:25

Yes I would. We drove to Germany a few years ago (4 hours this side, then ferry, then four hours the other side) for a four day break, it was fine.

mckenzie · 10/06/2012 17:33

thanks very much guys. A spanner has been thrown in the works now though as we have the chance of a caravan in Devon for the same four nights and I'm weighing up the two options. Help me out would you?

Devon only 3 and a half hour drive, Cornwall 5+

Devon - never been before so lower expectations, been to place in Cornwall before and had fab time but that's partly because we made fab friends.

Devon cheaper (caravan) but Cornwall hotel so I can put my feet up and not cook.

Devon will all be new so we can explore. Cornwall we know what's there and what our options are.
