Can anyone help please with finding either a holiday cottage 3-4 bedroom for 4 adults, 2 children and 2 toddlers that is near here (that is not booked already that is) and failing that is there a nice caravan park near by instead?

All suggestions very much appreciated.
Thank you!

It does get pretty busy round here. There are some apartments on the beach at bigbury- let me see if I can find them - it's a big block so more chance of something

Hmm no they're all too small or booked. This place? The ark is big enough and might have some availability? www.holiday-parks-devon.com/self-catering-holiday-cottages-devon.html

Could you go for 2 lodges www.thethatches.co.uk/Rental-Lodges.aspx. Or two caravans at challaborough bay (which really is nice as far as caravans go)

How about something like this.

It's at Goodrington, which is a lovely beach and close enough to Dartmouth & Woodlands. You will get more for your money in the Paignton area.

Caravans sleep up to 8 by the way! Not 6.

There are a couple of parks on the totnes side of Paignton (go that side and your journey into the south hams will be quick - avoid the Torquay side as traffic will be dreadful) oh just thought there are big lodges at ... It's the wring side but nice, hang on.

saintlyjimjams · 06/03/2012 22:16

Ah yes finlike.some big luxury ones with spa's as well as cheaper ones. It's not actually the wrong side really - short hop to totnes

thanks for all these tips!
a lot to think about when I book my next!
the problem i found when booking a cabin/lodge/caravan is that although they say it sleeps 8, there are usually only 6 beds and the 2 need to sleep on sofa beds i sitting room and that for two families is less than ideal but if we go alone (as in our family only) not with friends next time I will look into these first as most come with lots of outdoor space, in country but still have the option of pool or entertainment should it rain...
i have found something in the end. it is not ideal, not that big, stairs ( i have a very experimental toddler) and it does not have that log fire feel about it but it is lovely enough and in the location i wanted and a price i could afford although I had to cut a day both sides...
i cannot wait to go now!
the thing to remember also is that the big places get booked first and if you dont want two seperate cottages i should have started looking earlier, even thought the first one feel through a bit unfairly me thinks. there are some stunning places still available for families of 4 and it would be difficult to chose but as I was limited by the group size...
thanks thanks everyone for helping me along the way!

looks good tho, good location. don't forget to go to Blackpool sands, and Slapton Sands, the drive from where you are to Torcross is stunning.

we went to Woodlands today, sun was out it was quiet, and lovely.

Popoozle · 12/03/2012 12:26

They look lovely. Possibly not as remote as you would have liked but not a huge complex either. Hope you have a lovely time! Smile
