Can anyone help please with finding either a holiday cottage 3-4 bedroom for 4 adults, 2 children and 2 toddlers that is near here (that is not booked already that is) and failing that is there a nice caravan park near by instead?

All suggestions very much appreciated.
Thank you!

When for?
We stayed here at half-term, and I really recommend it. It's child-friendly - stairgates etc, and chickens to feed and a shallow river to paddle in.

About 15 minutes drive from Dartmouth.

for the first easter week please

Hi, this one Dartmouth is available it says for that week close to Dartmouth and for £595 looks great or try BlueChipHolidays as they specialise in holidays down that way and have some great properties.

piratecat · 04/03/2012 18:31

try Coast and Country properties, they do that area. Dartmouth is about 20 mins from me.

try Strete, Stoke Fleming, Kingsbridge too.

Woodlands Caravan and country Park is ten mins from Dartmouth.

if you stay there you get unlimited entry to the amazing playpark.

Thanks ladies. Everything seems to be booked :( I had one aparment from Coast and Contry paid for and then they told me that our party is one too many of us! It said it sleeps 7 but as we are 4 adults, 3 children and a toddler (sleeping in own cot) they wont let us stay! Now we are homeless! I am looking to go on Sundat 1st (cant do any earlier) and stay for 7 days if possible but budget is only around £700 and it seems impossible now. Looks like all the big places are sold out! I dont mind the area so much, it all seems lovely, as long as it is relatively near the beach and the Woodlans park (it comes highly recommended). Your help very much appreciated.

this web site is also a local one to me.

your problem seems to be that most change over days are fridays or sats.

i know this property, and the beach and village. this company also seem to have a chat online facility, so that's helpful.

are you a travel agent piratecat? :)
it looks lovely but the dates are wrong! I have done nothing but looking all day...

no!! just live very very near to all the places you are looking at, and know the area and of the two main cottage rental places. Have had to book places for family in the past!

You would have to forfeit the sat in the week wouldn't you, come down on the sunday, and leave on the sat morning.

piratecat · 06/03/2012 17:03

hi, this is my most fave place in the world. down the road!

available, but worth it imo, it's stunning. umight be able to negotiate a deal. the location is worth it it you want a bit of peace. it's very good for Dartmouth, one way, and Kingsbridge the other.

dreamy

Koumak · 06/03/2012 18:54

thanks so much for all your help. You are right I dont mind losing a day each side of the holidays but it is tricky to find the availability. I have actually seen this flat but the stairs look bit ricky for my suiciadal toddler! Stairgate is possible but then I cannot guarantee that the other kids won't leave it open... I just had my heart set on something old fashioned and green with a bit of outside space... [off to sulk some more]

I think I have to start looking at lodges or cabins or whatever is the right word. But are they big enough for 8? Caravans only sleep 6 max anyway.

How close to dartmouth do you want to be? I always recommend challaborough bay to people looking for a caravan park in south Devon as the location is fab, and it's not too large. They should have some 8 berths.

Or if you're feeling brave featherdown farm? They have some sites near Salcombe.

saintlyjimjams · 06/03/2012 19:26

If you want old fashioned and rickety with outside space then there are chalets at wembury but they're pretty basic!

Koumak · 06/03/2012 19:31

caravans are no use, they only take 8 if 2 sleep on the sofa bed in lounge so that is not enough space

OP posts:
Koumak · 06/03/2012 19:32

i dont mind basic, we go camping all the time but my friend is fussy! she does not do basic and as we are going together... I really wanted to find something decent so we can all enjoy it.

thanks for all your help everyone

It does seem that I am late for Easter. I missed it. Didnt I?

so many people rebook and pay a deposit soon after their hols, so it's difficult to find anywhere.

hope you do find something.

saintlyjimjams · 06/03/2012 20:11

Thank you!
I am emailing everyone with possible availability!
I was so excited and....
Can you tell I don't get to go as the whole family....

OP posts:
saintlyjimjams · 06/03/2012 21:23

Does it have to be self catering because there are also places like the Thurlestone www.thurlestone.co.uk/home.htm, the more basic cottage hotel www.hopecove.com/ or Burgh Island www.burghisland.com/ if you're a multi millionaire Grin

Koumak · 06/03/2012 21:39

Self catering probably necessery as we have 2 little ones that still require specific time foods and naps etc and fussy eater all around. I am so tired now. Dissapointed.
If there is availability then it is for short time and it seems such a waste to cut it short if the bank holiday is there for the taking if you know what I mean! But pretty much everything in my range is booked.
I have emailed several locations that didnt look booked online and will see what they say tomorrow.
You lot are brilliant. You are!
