Why does early potty training seem so much harder

With my older children I potty trained them all with a few days between the age of 2.5-3 years of age. Started trying at 2.5 but if it didn’t seem to be clicking within a day or 2 I just waited another couple or months to try again. Now having read lots of new ideas about how it’s better to start potty training earlier and should no longer wait for signs of readiness I’ve decided to start training our 2 year 3 month toddler. However nearly a week in and doesn’t seem to be clicking at all and constant accidents and lots of big clean up operations!! Everything I’ve read said this new method is evidence based etc and I really want it to work, just looking for some encouragement/tips before completely give up on it!!

All just depends on the child. Mine was day trained by 19/20 months. Then didn't get dry at night until 4

You’re just one person though?

Nappies are much better.
Parents have less incentive to really stick at it as there isn't the mounds of washing associated with terry nappies, leaks, bedding and rubber sheets.

I did weaning and potty training with ds1 before he was ready because the health visitor and social worker said I should. Big mistake and both were a nightmare. With my others I said I wasn't interested in any advice and waited until they were ready, dc2 at 4y 1m, dc3 at 3y 10m, dc4 at 4y 9m and dc5 at 3y 9m. All of them were dry within a week of starting. Ds1 wasn't reliably dry for a year after starting potty training.

Both of mine were potty-trained between 3 and 3.5. A bit late, perhaps, but we followed the "no stress" method of potty-training and can count the number of accidents each of them had on one hand. That was when DS was ready to potty-train. DD could probably have been trained a few months earlier but I was caring for a terminally ill relative so it wasn't a priority. They wore pull ups on long trips or where there wasn't going to be easy access to a toilet until they'd cracked it. We've never owned a travel potty, thank goodness.

I think it’s very child dependent. I potty trained both of mine just before they turned 2. My son probably took a year to stop having accidents. My daughter got it perfectly on the day.

When he was 4 and she was 2 he still had the odd accident and she never did.

I’m still glad I trained them both early. I was very glad to not to be changing the pooey nappies of a toddler. We used reusable nappies anyway so washing clothes from wee accidents was much easier than the nappy loads we had been doing.
